Hi guys,i am actually working on positions on the harp and scales (want to try Adams challenge on the first position, it will take a while !) But i found this :
http://www.circle-of-fifths.net/learn.html
Free interactive lessons to learn the circle of fifth and where are located the sharps and flats on the scales.I just did lesson 1 and 2 with the test they offer and now i start to really understand what's it is all about . Believe it or not it is actually fun!
I thought i'd share the information. Chris

Also check Adam's vid where he shows his new Hohner T shirt (I forgot which vid) It says: to play in G in 2nd pos you need a C harp etc.... there is a good close up of a very understandable version/print of the circle of fifths...

Thanks for sharing that link Chris. That site is awesome. I am self taught when it comes to theory, and I had a very hazy idea of the circle of fifths. That has made it very clear and easy. I advise everyone on this forumn who wants to expand on their circle of fifth knowlede to do these quizes. The circle of fifths relates directly to us harp players when trying to figure out which harp to grab depending on what key the band is in, and what position you are playing.

Also have a look at http://randscullard.com/CircleOfFifths/ for a nice interactive circle of fifths that shows how much theory info can be derived from it.
Here's how the circle of fifths works for harp keys and positions. Every harp player would benefit from this much information...
For a given harmonica key, the playing key for each position is determined by counting clockwise around the circle from the harmonica key.
For music in a given key, the harmonica to play in each position is determined by counting counter-clockwise from the music key (where first position is the same harmonica key as the music key).

I'd like to have the Circle of Fifths printed upside down on the front of my T-shirt for reference. :)

Here's a link to the free download, "Harmonica Positions," that a member of this board created. It's terrific. Enjoy:

Of course 6th thru 11th positions are not a lot of use, but Jason Ricci does some beautiful work in 12th position on Sonja, track 11 of Rocket Number 9.
