I have....he let me go...called to a meeting in a pub in the country..me and the keyboard player had the audacity to say that the set list (same for 2 years!!) needed a kick up the proverbial. Well the female singer threw her dummy out the pram and the guitarist took it oh so personnally, that's her partner by the way; she was in an Abba tribute band before.. My critique was we are more caberet than blues (ouch)
We have exchanged Christmas greeetings in fact he has sent me a copy of Charlie Musselwhites new live cd 'Rough Dried' live at the triple door..cool
However rejected but not humbled I will return with a vengeance!!!!!
Any band politics out there to sympathise..harmonicanick xx

Not as a harp player, but as singer.
I had a lengthy period of depression a few years back. At the time I was in a band with some workmates. Because I'd been signed off sick for 6 months, things got a bit awkward.
I was browsing the musicians classifieds one evening and found an ad - "Lead Singer wanted for established band" and the guitarists number underneath. My gig! the cheek of it! I was so tempted to ring up for an audition!
We're all mates again now and can laugh about it . Water under the bridge. There's even talk of a reunion gig...
My first band fizzled when the drummer sold my PA that he was looking after!
At least things are going well now... for the time being... I think...

A bit pissed off since the lead singer and another guy in the band turned down a NYE gig in a decent bar.
But as Danny from Withnail and I says: "That's politics" ---------- "Q. How many harmonica players does it take to change a light bulb?"
"A. Never mind the changes man, just blow!"

Haha, I think most everybody has a nightmare shared PA story. I've even seen a handful of cases on Judge Judy over that issue.

I got dumped from my last band by the lead guitarist/ singer/ leader. I now realise to get what you want out of playing blues harp in a band the rest of the band need to be willing to compromise for you to get 'your' sound. Most lead guitarists aren't I have found. I'm now in a much more harmonica-friendly band where I have blossomed as a player. Couldn't have worked out better. I'm sure something similar will happen to you, eventually. Keep trying new line-ups!!

Nick,
You shouldn't feel humbled.
"She was in an Abba tribute band before."
Really, that's all you needed to say.

OW, Listening to a true story about Ginger Baker, before Cream, he was playing drums with the Graham Bond Organisation who spearheaded the English r&b explosion in the '60's Before he took a bowie knife to Jack Bruce when they were Cream he actually fired Jack from the G Bond band as the drummer, not the leader!! Rock and Roll!!! Nicko....
