I have a slug of harps I can't revive by filing the reeds anymore. Seems like time for reed transplant surgery.

I have the Oysler DVDs and see what to do, but I can't find the rivet punch and setting tools to use. (I don't remember the name, but the listings at the end of the video for the tools goes to people that seem to have left the business or retired.)

Outside of a Seydel tool that looks like a pliers, I can't find anything so far. Anybody know of a good source?

It's hard to find the Farrel Reed Removal tools these days. I actually have two or three of them but I don't really use them. I usually use a small center punch and jeweler's hammer, if you do it with care you can reuse the rivet so you don't have to deal with the screws.

1)Is there a specific size of punch that works best? 2)Do different harps need different sizes? I have SP-20s, MBs, GMs, & Bushmans to experiment with.

Check out http://elkriverharmonicas.com/ They have a pretty good assortment of tools.

Also, check http://customharmonicas.com/r-sleigh/

Richard Sleigh does custom harps and sells tools too--he is also a great player--you'll find him on YT--he even has some good harp customizing vids up. . .

I'm no expert at this but I've done it once, and found it pretty easy. I just got a small nail punch I had in the shed, filed around the end so it was thinner than the rivet diameter. Placed the donor reedplate on a steel backing piece to support it but with a gap in it wider than the reed. Now punch it out, if you did it right you should have a reed with a rivett in it ready to go. Just punch this straight back into the new one, and peen it over, centre it up, tune it up and your ready to go.
