Get the gapping right, and blow gently - start as gently as you can, then only crescendo when the note sounds.
I can only get it on my D harp and I didn't gap it deliberately, it was just an accident, I guess.

Perfect gapping helps, and the action is waaaaaay back in your throat. Like where your nasal cavity drops into the roof of your mouth: that's where the 1 overblow originates.

I can do it on most of my harps. I've never been able to get on an out of the box harp, and I can't fast or reliably.

It's a tough one.

Even Jason says this is a tough one. If you gap it for the overblow, then the blow tends to "stick" on you.

I was able to get it on my suzuki's out of the box. It's like almost swallowing your tongue and blowing with buck teeth.

Tuckster got it right. i really only use this note in cross as a passing note on the 4 chord. The only time I hold it down and really play it as a note, for a whole note, or longer, is on harps higher than D and usually I'm playing it in a minor context as well, treating the note as a sharp 5, and/or as part of the melodic minor scale in 2nd pos.. So yeah I don't really do it on lower harps in the same context cause you alway got the octave (4 o.b.) and it is a total pain in the ass and it makes it hard to buzz around that low octave with the 1 draw and 1 blow reeds all tight like that...even if you use less air when playing blues those reeds are BIGGER and I think they sound better when they can breath a bit...maybe my whole opinion will change in a year or so but thats where I'm at right now with that note. good subject! thanks.
