Hey everybody!
A couple of days ago while jamming, a friend told me that he heard some kind of clicks (he compared it to an old radio ???) when I was playing. I had never noticed it before, however when I listened to it I could hear it distinctively. I even checked out the last video I had posted and (damn it) there it was. See 0:30... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mke1fz6vumE
I know that it comes from my nose. Also that it correlates with how bad its clogged (which is pretty often the case because my nasal cartilage is not straight). Also that it is triggered when gliding from hole to hole while keeping up the air pressure (e.g. playing hole 1 to 6 while blowing constantly - there's a click after every hole... !).
I always hated the noise of the loud breathing because of my clogged up nose and now adding to this comes the clicking. Does anybody have a similar problem? Just wanted to ask...

German Harpist....you have a deviated spetum and it is easily corrected. The noise you are hearing is caused by the air forcing holes in the gunk in your nose and then the hole closing again. I had this condition which only came to light when my wife made me see the doctor due to excessive snoring and stopping breathing while I was sleeping. I had the operation in April last year and it instantly improved my breathing (well after approx 2 weeks of recovery) They straighten the septum which will open the side of your nose that was blocked. If you have problem with snoring or stopping brathing you should get it checked out with your doctor as over time, this will put a strain on your heart. It also will greatly improve your relationship with your wife as it stops you snoring and so she doesn't have to wake you up 20 times a night.
Hope this is of help.

Yes, thanks a lot Oisin. I was a little bit reluctant to get operated. But I'll think about it now. ---------- http://www.youtube.com/germanharpist

I'VE HAD THE SURGERY TO CORRECT THE SEPTUM AND REMOVE POLLYPS. GOD DAMN IT HURTS. THEY TAKE A DREMMEL LIKE TOOL AND AN ENDOSCOPE AND GO AT IT. YOU MAY WELL NEED IT I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW IT'LL TAKE A WHILE BEFORE YOU'RE RIGHT. NO SEX, NO HARP NO FUN.

I went in for a tonsilectomy many years ago, and they said, "Hey, while we're at it, we'll do a nasal septrum reconstruction, too." I didn't know I neede one, but they did it. I didn't have any problems with the operation. If they didn't tell me about it, I wouldn't have known they did it.

MAYBE IN MY CASE IT WAS THE POLYPS BUT MAN I DON'T THINK I COULD DO THAT AGAIN. AND THE FACT IS, A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS SOCALLED DEVIATED SEPTUM. SOME MORE EXTREME THAN OTHERS. AND THEN ON THE OTHER HAND ALL SURGEONS ARE NOT EQUAL IN THEIR TALENTS. I'M SURE SOME GOOD COMES FROM THIS BUT ALL I KNOW ABOUT SURGEONS IS THEY MAKE MONEY BY DOING SURGERIES. I DON'T WANT TO FREAK ANYBODY OUT, JUST SHARING MY EXPERIENCE WITH IT.

I'll just add that although the operation I had was a complete success, I have to agree with LIP RIPPER and say it was very painful when I awoke from the op and I had a few days of pain and nosebleeds afterwards. I certainly wouldn't want to have it again and to be honest the one who has benefitted most from this is my missus as it did greatly reduce the amount of times I woke her during the night with snoring. One word of warning...I had an Iranian surgeon do this operation and although he did a good job, he did seem to make everything as painful as possible. Try not to get a surgeon from a country where they routinely practice torture. (No offense to any Iranian harp players out there).
