I was using the forum search and thought I'd search "Washington" and saw snakes lives out in Machias and oldwailer lives in Arlington. That's really weird cause I live in Lake Stevens! Well just thought you guys would like to know there's another Gussow follower near by.

I'm also in the western half of the state but not that far north. I live in downtown Seattle.

Cool! I love Seattle. Did you go to the James Cotton concert on Sunday? I couldn't make it... had college stuff to take care of.

Gorignak - I missed James Cotton when he was here this time. I have seen him in 2007 at Mark Hummel's harmonica blow-out. He was shakin' hands and kissin' babies and whatnot after the show. The only other harmonica influences I've met was Charlie Musselwhite and had a lesson with Grant Dermody last year. Sooner or later I'll cross paths with 'em all.

Blackbird, do I envy you right now. I just recently got into the blues about a year ago (that's when I started playing Harp) And haven't had any opportunities (that I know of) to see anyone live, until James Cotton came last Sunday, and I missed out!

I didn't realize how many people have the blues up here. Must be all the rain.

Gorignak, keep an eye on The Triple Door - (www.thetripledoor.net) for shows. A lot of great blues musicians play there from time to time. Also, the Highway 99 blues club (www.highway99blues.com) features Lee Oskar the last friday of each month (and I haven't been there yet!) aside from the rest of the live blues they feature on all of the other days. Plenty of blues going around in this town, and acoustic blues can be found networking around the Dusty Strings music store (www.dustystrings.com) if you keep an eyeball peeled for it. Long drive from Lake Stevens, but well worth it for the right events.

Hi gorignak,

Welcome to the forum! I had a ticket for Cotton, but I had torn my knee up a few weeks ago and it was ripping too hard to go out--I had surgery yesterday, so now its on the mend.

I did catch the Mark Hummel blowout at the Triple Door a while back--it was really something--especially Rick Estrin--What a Master!

Snakes and I have gotten together a couple of times at his house in Machias--I play a little guitar and harp and Snakes of course adds some harp.

Maybe we could get something going and have a few MBH peeps get together? If we could find a place--I'd be down for it. . .

Thanks Blackbird, I had no idea any of that was going on! I'll have to check it out.

oldwailer, that sucks. Missing Cotton because of your torn knee (would make a great blues song though). I wish you a speedy recovery. Good thing you didn't take up the drums hu!

Well, about a possible get together, that sounds great with me, but I'm only 18, and living with my mom, so naturally she might get a little Chris Hanson-ey if you know what I mean. But keep me in the loop if anything goes down.

Hi Geordie,
Thanks for the strokes--mine is just a blown biscuit--should be up and at it within a couple of weeks or so.

I asked the doctor if I could get some medicinal weed--he just laughed and gave me these f**kin vickies. Of course, you can't drink a lot of beer on the pain pills, but I been sneakin one now and then.

The upside is that I'll get a bunch of woodshed time in as soon as I get my head cleared out enough to figure out where the lips are and where the harp is.

Sorry I took so long to chime in! Oldwailer - I've had many orthopedic surgeries as you know and I can vouch for the fact that Vicodin and beer don't mix. You wanna take Vicodin with Bourbon. LOL! (Only if your liver is a brick like mine.)

Blackbird - falconer - gorignak => so cool to have more Washingtonians to talk harp with. Well, I went to see Mr. Cotton and must say his band was awesome. Awesome! Mr. Cotton was good, but you could tell he was laboring a bit. I bet it was carry-over from the show the night before (I think it was on the peninsula somewhere). Time could be catching up with him possibly. I am very glad I went though as overall the music was great. The lead singer was named Slam Allen and he played lead guitar a bit too. Both guitarist played off each other (I believe the other guitarist was named Tom Holland). The bass player was out of this world. He did no less than two solos and they were remarkable. I've only seen a couple bass players who could play like that. Our own Rob Moitoza (Motoiza?) is one who can play the heart out of a bass guitar...

Good advice to check out the Triple Door. They do have all ages shows gorignak. Did you guys know that John Nemeth is coming in March!

Snakes - I agree. Last time I saw Cotton he was still puttin' the rest of the room to shame, but I got the impression that time is catching up with him a bit. Rusty Zinn was the guitar player that night, and did a nice job with all the harpers.

I'll watch for the John Nemeth date. March is already busy for me, but if he's coming on a free day I'll see if I can get in.

John Nemeth is also on the calendar for March 7th at the Highway 99 blues club in downtown Seattle. I highly recommend seeing him at one of the venues as his voice alone is worth the trip. He plays a pretty mean diatonic and chromatic harp as well.
