Anyone listen to this music at all and know of any bands with good harp players?
I can't say I know of ANY Chrsitian Blues bands, but I'm told they exist! Would be interested to take a listen.
Thanks.

Peter: I play in a christian rock/blues band. Most of our blues style music is original. The pastor is great at the guitar and plays some great leads and blues licks.
Yes there are some individuals/bands out there. I've seen them on youtube. You can try to search. I have a call into the pastor for some names to give you. The ones i've seen are not a classic chicago style. They are very good muscian/harmonica players.

There's a local show on my NPR station on Sunday nights that plays a ton of Christian/Gospel blues. Sadly, none of the many names have stuck with me. I think Google is your friend. Search for more "blues + gospel" rather than "blues + christian". Once you find some key artists, run them through Pandora.com for some more leads.

For virtuoso harp playing (blues + christian) you must check out the late Terry Mcmillan See: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rre4NKZOxGc
He was Nashville based and had 'hard times'

Hi Peter
I don't know of Christian bands that have continual harp player, but there is a couple of songs on the Best of Promise Keepers III that I am dying to learn and be able to play. The songs are called, "Pass Me Not" and "God is Good". Check them out....awesome harp work!!!

Peter: Glad there's interest beyond classic blues. If you have not heard Buddy Greene, You should search his youtube. One video is a great version of ( The William Tell Overature ) played at Carnegie Hall. Buddy is the harmonica player for the Gaithers. He is as good as it gets at what he does.

I have checked out Buddy Greene...good stuff! Please share any other suggestions you may have.
Darrell Mansfield is pretty amazing as well. I'm going to dig into trying to find out some more about him as well.
Chris, I didn't have much luck finding out who was playing on that Promise Keepers CD. Seems like many have covered that song, so not sure who is on the CD. Thanks for that suggestion. I'm looking forward to diving into that as well!

Pastorharmonica - thanks for the lead on christianblues.net. I've been listening about 1/2 hour at work so far...good stuff! Haven't heard any bands with harmonica yet, but great blues. Keep us posted on your band, would love to take a listen! If you know of any specific Christian Blues bands that feature a harmonica player, let me know. Thanks again!
