Hi All,
I am thinking of getting a Sonny Junior 4X10 Amp.
I was wondering has anyone bought one and what do you think of them?
They seem to be the perfect Amp to invest in but are really expensive to buy and ship to the UK.
I would have to sell all my gear to afford one but I must say I have been to a gig recently and heard one and I can honestly say that I have not heard "THAT" sound live before except on my CD collection. The voice that this amp is capable of seems emmence.
I just want to know if they as good as the reviews on the web site.
If you want to hear what it sounded like at the gig I went to, go to Oxharp on the tube and look for Mean Red Spiders.
I look forward to hearing from you guys.

Regards

Russ

i have blown through one and barely missed buying it at the time. of course it didn't last long and it was gone.
the voice of the amp is incredibly harp friendly and i don't know what all he did to make them so. i was looking to get one in spring of last year and had planned to keep on saving up until i could afford one, but ran across sligo amps here in the usa and looked into them instead. i ended up with a harp-friendly '59 bassman replica for about 2/3 the cost of a sonny jr. it has 2 flat cone 10's and 2 other different speakers and is designed to break up at both low and high volumes. i swapped a couple of pre amp tubes and got some very good volume without losing tone too. possibly some more tube swaps are in the future but i am basically very pleased with this amp, more than any big amp i've ever owned.

steve clark at sligo sure put a great amp together for me. its components were hand picked and it's hand wired, cabinet is gorgeous, and with either a cm or crystal mic it sounds like 2 million bucks. i had called steve to ask if he'd done any amps for harp guys- he does all sorts of fender circuit amps- and he referred me to a guy he'd built one for. this other guy had gotten one with reverb which would have cost more than i could spend, so i went without. no big deal though, it's such a sweet amp anyway.

but all that being said, i suggest you look into blues box amps and harpgear amps as well. you may find a smaller less expensive amp that suits you just as well, and you won't have to sell off too much stuff to get one!

what wrench says is true, an amp will amplify what you do well and what you do poorly!

I checked out the website and they sound great on the clips I heard. I'm a long way off from actually wanting someone to hear me aplified (lol), but I was curious how much those amps run. Wouldn't hurt to start saving up now, right?

Hi Chris,
Latest prices from Sonny are,
US Dollars 1795 Amp
Plus 4% fee for wiring the money over.
Plus Ship to the UK $225
Plus Import Duty God Knows? Probably another few hundred Dollars.
Loads of money but its an investment and they are only going to get more expensive as the Credit crunch bites and they are going to sound fantastic in years to come when they are worn in.

Does any one want to but one for me and bring it over?

Only joking
Cheers anyway

Ouch!! $1800?!!! That's a ton of cash for a small amp! Makes me glad I'm on the right side of the puddle! lol
Oxharp, start saving now....all my family is from Scotland. Who knows...maybe you'll have the money saved up by the time I'm ready to visit Scotland and I'll bring it for you! lol

Take care!

Hello Oxharp,

have a peek at www.foxamps.com. Marc Vos builds outstanding (custom)harmonica amplifiers.
I suppose that shipping to the U.K. wouldn't break the bank. I do not know about customs duties shipping from The Netherlands to the U.K. though........

Bye,
Ruurd
