Hi Folks,

Lately I've been inspired to play Irish tunes by the YouTube videos of Joel Thomas (theloveboxquartet and theloveboxquartet2 on YouTube). These tunes force you to tongue-block well as they involve a lot of vamping/chording, some tongue-switching/cornering, and very accurate blow and draw octaves. And you need some speed to play them convincingly. I've been intensively woodshedding on several Irish tunes to the point where I'm now playing them passably well. What I'm finding, going back to blues music, is that I'm a lot more comfortable tongue-blocking blues tunes now... getting a much better feel for what Kim Wilson does, technique-wise, for example (though finding his groove is another matter...).

Joel, if you're listening, thanks!
