I recently bought a Bb Hammond and a Bb Bluesmaster (both suzuki) and i cant hit the blue 3. I have lee oscar, harpmasters and promaster wich none have this problem. The 3 hole stops sounding when i bend it and when i bend it harder it squels then comes the full step bend. I have no trouble bending on my other harps. Thanks for the help

You could try Adams trick using a thin piece of paper try lifting the 3 draw reed up slightly. It's strange though that it's happening on both harps.

It could also be your technique. Try doing it gently.

I think it's video #15 that shows the reed lifting technique.

Are your Lee Oskar, Harpmasters and Promaster also in the key of Bb? It may be that you have conquered the problem in other keys but just need to modify your technique slightly for the Bb. The Hammond would have the same reedplates as the Promaster and the Bluesmaster wouldn't be that much different either.

I tried lifting the reed slight. No success. The other harps are in different keys. Iam having hard 2 believe that it could be my bending since i can bend all bendable holes effortless on all my other harp. I have 9 harps. From low f to high g.

I noticed a Small Buzzing noise on the Hammond playin the 3 hole, May be a missaligned reed, How do i fix that when the reeds are welded?

Think the bluesmaster is just a Monday Dud. =) It plays really bad all over the harp.

By coincidence I am having the same problem with a new Honer BR in D. All the notes play well except for the bent 3 draw. I tried increasing the gap with no success. The unbent 3 draw sounds OK but is a bit "slow". I will first try to play it for bit to break it in, but if that doesn't work I'll go back in and get rougher with it. I've had good success with BRs in the past, but I guess you'll get a bad harp once in a while. At least BRs (and Bluesmasters) are relatively inexpensive for what are generally fine instruments. I hope it helps that you're not alone, Arbite.

A buzzing sound indicates to me that there is a metal burr in the way, or the reed is not perfectly aligned with the slot. You can use a small flat edged srew driver to scrape away at the reed plate at the point where the reed is hitting it. I don't own any Hammonds so I don't know about the welds, but with riveted reeds you can apply small pressure and actually pivot them over to where they line up.

As far as adjusting the gaps, have you tried adjusting the 3 blow reed? It has everything to do with your bends on the draw. Try adjusting it and see what happens.

Problem gone on Both Harmonica's =))) I Closed the gaps on both Blow and Draw Reeds, And Ran a shim 0.05mm / 0.0002inch along the sides of the reeds, Then Played the 3 hole really Hard for about a Minute,

NOISE GONE And All Bends are there =))

AWESOME!!

It's a good thing we didn't stop the emphasis on custom harmonicas, isn't it? I guess we just proved that sometimes out of the box we have a little trouble, and it isn't always a poor technique. I'm actually glad you had, and fixed this problem yourself for everybody to read!
