FREE 12 BAR BLUES JAM TRACKS or BACKUP TRACKS
First of all, I want to thank MBH member Grillslinger who, last week, posted a link to the Lawrence Fritts website which contains about 80 blues Jam/Backup tracks...

I collect back-up tracks (have about 1700 of them) and immediately checked out the Fritts offering. There is some pretty good stuff there. All in the 12 bar blues format, performed by actual live musicians. A great variety of different grooves, styles and keys. Certainly worth adding to my collection.
As stated on the Fritts site...
"The backing tracks below may be downloaded and used for any purpose, with no restrictions whatsoever."
Great!
However, the problem I ran into was the .aif file type that Fritts uses, which produces incredibly large file sizes, long download times, and require the right file player. Nevertheless, I proceeded to download ALL these files. The process took about 2 days and nearly 4GB of data! As is my usual practice, for consistency and economical use of storage space, I convert all my sound files to the .mp3 file type, resulting in about 400MB of data. Another day of work. Along the way, I eliminated a few tracks not worth saving. The resulting 66 files is a fine addition to my collection.
Then an idea occurred to me! Why not share my efforts with other MBH members? So, thanks to information provided by MBH member tookatooka, I uploaded these files to a free file server (FileDen.com), and now I provide download links for all of you to use!
A bit of explanation... for convienience, the 66 files have been compiled into .zip files which can be easily unpacked after downloading. (FileDen has a 50MB file size limit, thus the 9 .zip files)
IMPORTANT UPDATE........ 10/20/2009
ZackP recently started a thread (Attempting Jazz) where he used the file sharing services of Tempfiles.net.
I thought I might also use this service to facilitate more downloads of the 12 Bar Blues Backup Tracks that this thread is about.
I think the Tempfiles.net website is much better than Rapidshare or Fileden. The files will remain on Tempfiles for one month after the last time they are downloaded, which could be indefinitely if they become popular downloads.
So I created two NEW zip files which contain all 66 of the 12 Bar Blues Backup Tracks compiled from the Fritts website and converted to mp3's, and uploaded them to Tempfiles.net. The process took several hours.

You are a legend Jaybird, I had checked these out thanks to Grillslinger and downloaded a couple of tracks, and was just getting around to working out the file type, and sorting through them, you've saved me a hell of a lot of work, I can now put towards practicing now, thanks again my man!

I dont know if it's my internet, but it takes about 20 min for me to save 1 track......so that sucks

Excellent Job Jaybird!! It's taking me about 7 minutes per zip and then I just move them to my Win Media Player. There is probably 3-3-1/2 hours of Jam track here. And good stuff! They say never stop practicing new stuff and this helps alot. You win Hero of the day dude!!!

Just a side note.... FileDen is a free file server, with limited service. Each account is limited to 5GB of bandwith for each 21 day period. We already used up most of the allotment for this period. Then it resets.
If one of you guys that already downloaded the 9 zip files were to upload them to FileDen or another server and provide new links, then other MBH members can continue downloading.
Maybe Adam can put them up at TradeBit.

I've upgraded the rapidshare account - should be good for more than 10 downloads now... hopefully!

MtVlongName, wish I could help. I downloaded them and they wouldn't open. It's hard to explain what's gone wrong, but they've buggered ALL my .zip folders, including the jam tracks I bought here. I seem to be the only one with this problem, so I must have a virus, or it might be something to do with Microsuck - thank you, Mr Gates. If I can fix it, I'll help, though I've had no luck so far.

Hey Jaybird - If you create a free collectors account (just need a login name and an active email address) you can link these files to that account. It means the 10 download limit is removed.

There is a good variety of tracks there as Jaybird noted. I like to sometimes think up a bit of a story as I play along to help to go somewhere with my improvisation, although I'm coming up against a bit of a brick wall with "Cat Barf Blues" at the moment. I noticed theres also another one called "ALL CAPS BLUES", but I'm not touching that one!

I have Adam's purchasable lesson on 12 bar blues, how to play and count and the tab that comes with that. I'm wondering if anyone uses & would share another tab that they came up with on their own or from someone else that is similar to this practice?

Rapidshare is really messed up.
I can't log into my account. Password invalid. I sent them an e-mail requesting my password. They replied that they have no account with my e-mail address.

Anybody considered https://www.yousendit.com/cms/liteaccount
as an alternate file download option? Looks like for free the file sizes are 100mb and allow 100 downloads.

Jaybird - thank you anyway for all your persistance and effort on this. The tracks are useful and having them converted to mp3 is a big plus. lets hope I can get the two zip files I missed when the 21 day limit rolls over! Even without them I have enough jam tracks to keep me busy a while...

I've posted this message before, but in light of the topic being discussed here I feel it might be helpful to repeat.
BEWARE OF RAPIDSHARE!! During the first MBH harp challenge I went on rapidshare to pull down a backing track posted by oldwailer, and my computer was totally infected with malware. As I stated before, a significant chunk of the problem was my fault, as I hadn't updated my anti-virus/malware software for a long long time (my bad). I have no doubt it was that site that did the dirty deed, as I go to only a few sites and the problem manifested itself immediately after I left the site. Also, I'm quite sure that the problem had nothing to do with any MBH members as everybody here seems to be very cool.
I'd simply say to be very careful with rapidshare, make sure your computer is completely squared away with respect to virus/malware defenses. If it helps any, the symptoms of the malware is that any time you try to pull up a web page you are bombarded with ad web pages opening up that you didn't ask for. Very annoying.
I haven't been able to remove the malware yet. I have taken that computer off line. If anybody has any suggestions as to how to fix the problem it would be appreciated ( I know that's a little off topic for MBH so if that discussion is inappropriate for this site I understand).
But the above message aside, kudos Jaybird and everybody else for trying to make these jam tracks available to the community.

I'm having trouble getting these, is there any chance someone who has them could put them somewhere a little better than rapidshare, like maybe http://drop.io/ which has 100MB limit per drop? I can't seem to get any of the above links to work except for a few rapidshare links which tell me there's no free slots available.

Geordie, Unzip is built into windows. Double-click the zipped folder to open.

Hey Jaybird, I don't seem to have built in Winzipcoz when i double click on the files a window opens saying "Winzip is not free software, your trial period has expired" so i think i need to download something to let me unlock your lovlies! so any advice would be a great help coz i'm a real thicko when it comes to computers

I do have one question. I'm terrible at figuring out the key of the song. Some of them are titled to indicate key. Is that the song key, or the harp to use? Also, can anyone help me out with the ones that aren't labeled?

Jaybird - thanks a lot for all of your work and persistence. I was finally able to download this. One attempt had some corruption, but the 2nd time worked fine.
minnarky - if you have some kind of keyboard you should be able to figure out the keys. There's probably some program that you can get to emulate a midi keyboard on your computer.
I'll give a few a quick shots using a Yamaha PSR-520 that I borrowed from somebody:

Baby Talk Blues - Key of G
Bumper To Bumber Blues - Key of G
Call Me A Cab Blues - Key of A
Cold Call Blues - Key of F
Cupcake Blues - Key of G
Door To Door Blues - Key of F
Easter Bunny Blues - Key of E?
Hopefully somebody will correct me if I'm wrong. I would like to go through and label them all with the keys. I load these on my iPod for practice in the car (thanks Adam) and it's nice to know ahead of time what key they're in.

Hello, I just started the download also. It sure is nice that somebody makes an effort that others can benefit from - that's community!
I figure out keys just by taking a harp and starting to play with it. I always carry a harp in the key of C in my pocket and often play along some songs I listen from my car stereos. It is quite interesting to play that way as you are forced to play that harp in other positions beside the 2nd.
I actually use a scale-finder from the overblow.com to figure out what the key is by just looking at what holes&bends fit to that song and then looking from that scale-finder what is the scale that has those notes. I can open that page from my mobile phone.

First, I really appreciate the work that went into posting these tracks. Need a little help, tho. I was able to download the tracks easy enough, but, can't seem to get the mp3's converted to a format that I can burn to a CD to listen in my car. Tried wav files and the Windows media player files. Any suggestions?

If you're willing to install iTunes then you can burn a CD straight from the mp3s.

@Jackson: if you are on a PC you can use Windows Media Player (comes standard with Windows XP). Choose the "Burn" tab and it is pretty straight forward.
