I'm a guy who basically hates cars, and if I won millions on the lottery, I'd go out and buy a BMW 750 or 740, whatever the showroom had, without going on a waiting list or even test driving it. I don't care. A car's a car.
I'm also a guy who basically hates chromatic harps. But suppose I had to buy one and one only. Which one should it be?

I haven't bought one yet, but I did ask the same question over on the HarmonicaSpace site--and I got this answer from none other than Madcat Ruth--one of my heroes of Harp:
"I just got a new Hering Stan Harper Chromatic with the plastic body. It's the nicest chromatic I ever had! The Stan Harper Model is a 14 hole Chromatic so it has 2 extra holes on the low end extending the range down to a G note, making it the same range as a violin. WARNING: don't get the Stan Harper with the wooden body... the wood combs tend to warp a lot."

I have an old Hohner Super Chromonica & a new Suzuki Chromatix SCX48. Both are 12 holers but the Hohner is a wooden comb and the Suzi is plastic. Both are fine instruments but at the lower price end ie The Suzuki Fabulous Chromatic range has a starting price closer to a BMW. Do I like Chroms? Yes & no, they have their quirks ie sticking valves popping, hard to clean, more expensive to purchase and they are too large to carry around in your pocket. I go for months without playing them wheras my diatonics are always with me and get a blast daily. If you read music(I don't) but like to play classics or jazz(I do, or would like to!) then a chromatic might be your choice.
