I'm having some problems. I always envisioned my bends with my tongue being drawn back into my mouth: like saying eeee-ooooh. But doing this I can't get my full step bends. Also, I can't bend while tongue blocking. My instructor can do all his bends, and does them while tongue blocking, and he can do them softly as well. He talks about the lower the bend, the further back in the throat it is, and I'm trying to envision that, but I'm just not getting it.
How do you guys think about, or teach, the full step and 1.5 step bends while tongue blocking?

I learn quicker from visuals as well. Here is link with some information regarding the physics and biomechanics of playing harmonica. It may not be what you had in mind, but it is definitely interesting stuff!

Philosofy,
I can do those TB bends easily, but describing it is a different matter, I've been sitting here running through them to try and help, but its not easy to describe. I would say you are on the right track with the eeeee-aaawwww sound, and try to lower and flatten the very back area of the tongue. On the big bends maybe a bit of a jaw drop will help, but it can be done without doing it. What I would say though is just try really hard on one hole ( maybe 2 or 3 )bend it with pucker then switch straight to TB and try, and keep doing it over and over. Once you get one hole, I am certain the others will follow in quick succession.
Another thought, maybe just try doing your normal pucker bend, but concentrate hard on not pulling your tongue back, if you can do that I think you will have it, and it gives you a start point.
Hope that helps in some way. Good luck!
