To date - I've been tongue blocking by using the very tip iof my tongue to block out the other notes i.e. almost hitting it straight on with my tongue.

However - it's occured to me that many people curl their tongue downwards before tongue blocking - is this true?
I've tried it and found that in many ways it's a better technique.

I agree with what slowblowfuse says. Just to add a bit though, on Dave Barrett's DVD course, he recommends that you use the top of the tip, but then again, he also recommends that you tilt the harp up about 30 degrees, which, I suppose would naturally make that part of your tongue do the tongue blocking. I don't use that upward tilt embrouchure - I just looked it up, it's called a lip block, as opposed to a pucker - but I still use the top tip part of my tongue, at least I think I do.

Have a look at this site:

Someone else on this forum mentioned it. It discusses a load of these sorts of things.

I don't know about you, but I find that if I think too much about any of this stuff I can't play a damn thing.

I TB almost all the time. I have the tip of my tongue behind my top teeth, and block holes with the underside of my tongue.

I know players that use a slight curl and just beyond the tip as you mentioned. I use this as well. Seems to help with some of the techniques that can be done whilst tongue blocking like slapping.

It's good to use the tip of your tongue for the blow octaves and other techniques where you want to block two holes. However, for most of the draw octaves (3 and 7, 4 and 8, 5 and 9, and 6 and 10) you will need to use a wider part of the tongue because the notes are five holes apart and you have to block the three holes in the middle. I use the thick part of my tongue just beyond the tip.
