This video is the cat's ass!
Some of the things it's doing for me: I have some "riff ruts" that I'm breaking. For instance I've one riff rutt turnover phrase that goes(timing not indicated) 1d,2b,2d, 3d 3d', 2d,2b 1d 2d, 1d,1d,1d. the first warmup makes me have to focus when playing the 3d2d1d run fast at the beginning of the exercie so I play 1d not 2b. Also, since I hardly ever play 3b, and as I'm learning the exercise by ear, I find I unconsciously go for the 2d instead.
Since I gapped the harp to get the OB's, 4B has become tricky on the ascending "Juke" lick. I have to back way off on my attack to get it to sound and this is really helping my finesse and control. I wonder if this is an occupational hazard of gapping or it I'm just not very good at it? The problem doesn't seem to come up on holes 5 and 6.
The decorations on the 78-draw are really useful as I've found very similar techiques in Irish music and in a Dennis Grueling boogie lick I'm trying to steal...
Has anyone else worked (working) with this? It looks to be one of the most useful pieces of harp instruction I've come across. I can't wait to have it mastered to the point where it will be second nature.

It seems to me that you've made the gap on that 4 hole a little too small and it causes the reed to a) start vibrating with a little delay or b) not sound at all. You should widen the gap a bit so that you can still get the OB but the reed plays normally. Happened to me the first time i gapped a harp, helps to get the OBs at first but has a big downside :)
Haven't seen the video (not yet, anyways) so... i actually have nothing more to add :P

I think you're right Pullis, a) is the problem, but I'm just barely able to sustain the 4OB so I'm afraid to widen the gap in case I lose it.
Do you know if changing the draw reed gap can help?

Hmm, i have no idea but i'd guess not :E]. I suppose the only thing you can do is work with the technique so that you can get the overblow with a wider gap. The 4 hole OB is the trickiest one in the mid octave yet for me too, takes more force than holes 5 & 6. Try working down from a higher pitch harp, say, a D or something and it should be easier.
