has anyone here tried the marine band deluxe.i love that marine band tone ,but the damned things are so sensitive to moisture and inconsistent i can't justify them. i started out with hohner ms blues harps not bad but a little too quiet and ringy.i tried delta frosts didn't like them either. tried a couple lee oskars and absolutely could not stand them. my wife will probably kill me if i switch again because i just filled out my special 20 collection.19 of them. they are not bad . but not as sweet as the marine bands . i miss that tone.i was wondering if the deluxes were as sweet with the added benefits of the sealed comb and rounded corners and what not.

Well ,i'd say go for a Seydel soloist pro,you won't regret it ,wood comb no swelling and great tone.

my understanding with the MBdeluxe is the sealed comb is supposed to eliminate the swelling problem.how much is the soloist pro ?

Spanky,
For about what you would spend on a MB deluxe, I can make you a regular marine band that knocks the socks off any out of the box harp and the comb won't swell either.

@ spanky wow you seem to have a lot of harps.. mb's sound good, but so does plenty others:-) I love golden melodies (hohner) You can tinker around a bit with them and keep clean but overall apart from gapping etc ....save your money

I've got a deLuxe in A, but I haven't been able to compare it with my normal A harp, as the gf has that. It's very new, so it's not blown in yet and I can't really put my finger on the difference at the moment. The difference is in the feel - it's more responsive in many ways (it's more air-tight), the bends feel more confident, but it's not perfect. It definitely needed gapping, so it will probably take a few more goes to get that right (I've got some of the blow-holes too narrowly gapped at the moment)! I was going to buy a deLuxe in D as well, but I've embossed some of the draw holes on my D harp and that's playing quite well now, so I'm going to hold fire.

TRUST ME! Go for the Soloist Pro! It's a bloody great harp! It has sweet tone, and it is SO much more compfortable to play than any other harp I own, be they wood or plastic! There are no catchy seams, no sharp corners, and the stainless steel coverplates are river-rock smooth where your lips touch! It's a joy to pucker or toungue-block on the thing. Well worth the money... ---------- -------------- The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"

I should also note that when you buy it, buy it from Dave Payne at Elk River Harmonicas. He puts a personal touch back in doing buisness "over the internet". He'll take the time to get to know you, and know what you want. you'll feel really good after you buy from him, I promise that! ---------- -------------- The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"

Spanky,
As to your question,
"i miss that tone.i was wondering if the deluxes were as sweet with the added benefits of the sealed comb and rounded corners and what not."
....Yes they are, Ive got only one in Bb, plus 8 or ten standard Marine bands. I've also got 7 Sp20's and agree with what you say re: not as sweet as the MB.

Bolt a pair of MB1896 covers onto a SP20 and see if that does it for ya.

Enough to tell a difference, it'll sound like a Marine Band instead of a SP20.

I've always been a Marine Band guy and the Deluxe has become my main axe. I've got an entire set in the major keys (bought over a period of time) and they are darn good out of the box. Might be that I'm easier on them nowadays, but I seemed to have gotten twice the mileage out of them so far than the standard MB--makes it worth the price. And unless ANY customizer has a $55 price tag on their product, then you can't buy a custom for the same price. Anyway--

You know, I emailed Dave Payne one time about getting one of his customizing instructional CD's and never ever got a response back. Do you think I should try again?
