Hi folks

I have decided to lay hands on my best playing harp a few days ago (SP20 in A). The reason was that I couldn't get the 4 OB. Now what happens is that I do get an overblow on the 4 hole but it's too high (and I can even bend it up a little bit more). I think it's not far away from the 5 draw which would be a D.

What did I do to that reed and how can I fix it?

Cheers

If all you did was gap it, that shouldn't have affected the pitch, so you have to look at your technique. I know whenever someone questions someone's technique, that's seen as a huge insult, so I apologise, but it's all I can think of, and because my experience with my own GM and the way it differs from my MBs hints that technique may be the answer.

Hi Andrew

I'm always open for criticism - it takes a lot to insult me. I haven't touched the reed since the last adjustment. Instead I just kept on playing the harp as it is. It seems like the 4 hole blow has become uber-sensitive. A light breeze is all it takes to pop the OB. I suppose this sort of responsiveness also facilitates the bending of the OB. Playing with less force seems to produce the note I'm looking for.

Yeah, I wasn't explicit enough - inadvertent bending was what I was referring to. I think it happens because when people begin overblowing they think it's about blowing hard (the "over" part makes it sound that way), but real overblowing is gentle, when the harp is set up right.
