So I watched American Idol for the very first time last night because my former band mate and friend was the bassist last night.

The show is interesting. Lost of bad moments and music I don't listen to but there is definitely some thing for all of us to learn by watching. I of course was pretending to be a judge and found that lots of my thoughts were in line with there.

I'd never heard of Kara DioGuardi so I looked her up. She's a good singer!! One can a learn a lot from watching and listening to her.

In this vid, her spirit, soul and personality really shine. One thing to note, listen to the emotion and soul she puts into her song and it's nothing more than a rehearsal session. This is music, whether or not you like Pop music this IS GOOD music. And in this duet setting, the music is so pure, you can imagine it to be any kind of music.

Anyway, if you want insight into how I play, I listen to lots of chick like Kara. I literally pretend to be a singer when I am playing. I phrase in words and lyrics. Try it.

Always refreshing to hear your points of view and ideas you have on developing harp skills.

I'm glad you are posting videos again, by the way. Chick singers and all!

You're right, Buddha! She's great. This feeling thing and emulating the singer works for blues too. I remember reading somewhere that Cotton wasn't all that good when he first joined Muddy Waters--until he learned the lyrics to the songs--then he really cut loose.

She also ain't bad to look at!

She is good. Real easy on the eye & the ears.

Thanks Buddha for posting.

When I'm learning a tune to play on the harp the first thing I need is to really know the tune and importantly the lyrics. I am hopeless with tabs ie often tabs are just a starting point for me & I sometimes end up transposing tabs to find me a much better playing position.

Really enjoyed the message from Stranger and Angels as well as the musicianship. Very touching lyrics performed with emotional vocals and lovely piano. The piano player (Jess) was extremely humble. This (for me) added to the enjoyment of the song realizing the essence of the music came from such a soul. Thanks for the posts - both were great.

Good point Buddha, when I was learning music as a kid, I was always told to try and think of the phrases as if they were being 'sung'. After all, music is just an extension of that ancient thing. Especially with something that you breath through, like the harp.

P.S. Yeah, she IS pretty.
