I'm sure someone can give me a tip on dulling the edge that those sadistic mofo's put on at the factory. I would love to buy custom but just not enough fetta for that! So I did the next best thing I bought 2 MB Deluxe I also had purchased regular MB even though as you may know I prefer SPL20's. But I do love the tone of wood and I like the nostalgic look and sound of the old MB. That being said it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that edge is too darn sharp. So what's is wrong at Hohner that they can't fix that problem. I'm just tired of torturing myself till it feels good. So I'm hoping someone will have a simple fix that doesnt involve a complete overhaul, just want to play the darn thing! Thanks!!!
Spl20, Just expanding on what Buddah said, ( what I use I would call a file ), just carefully file a small curve around the end of the comb and reedplate. This will leave some sharp edges as the file cuts harshly, so get some fine sandpaper maybe 300 - 600 grit and just sand away and sharp edges and polish it up.
Thats it, no more sore red marks in the corner of your gob!
spl20, it's all to do with exchange rates etc. Harmonicas are made by machines, that's why guys like me are in business.
Get yourself a rasp that is wide enough to span the width. Run the harp back and forth until the brass is worn down and then use some 220 grit followed by 400 grill paper. That how I do the harps I build.
Is a 'rasp' the same as a file? I always thought of a rasp as being similar to the file but with a slightly rounded profile. I have a suzuki folkmaster that I want to file down as well and I had just watched the elk river video yesterday. You feel the rasp is the better tool for this?
