Stock Hohner MS harps only come with TWO screws! THey also have several extra screw holes availble in the plates, but are not drilled in the comb (at least for the Blues Harp). The replacement reedplates come with THREE screws (what are we supposed to do witht he extra screws?). So I think Seydel is just fine with it's five screws (my Soloist pro has five too). That's plenty enough screws to hold yer plates in place! Don't torque 'em too tightly though! That's a MAJOR way to cause air leakage. If the comb and reedplates are flat (and they will be on an 1847), just barely firm is all the screws need to be. ---------- -------------- The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"

What type of screwdriver should I use on my 1847 Silver to remove the cover plates. A phillips works, but it looks like its meant for something different. I tried finding a Torx that fit it with no luck.

those screws suck. I was talking to the Seydel rep about it the other day and he's aware they suck too. Apparently seydel bought 30,000 of those screws because they were cheap. LOL
Go to ace hardware, they actually have a very decent selection of screws and put new ones back on. Every seydel that comes into my shop with those screws leave with new ones.
BTW- I have the best results using a flat head screw driver.

I've heard pozidriv #0 and #1 for the two different screw sizes. It was actually somewhat interesting to read about the history and design goals of the phillips head.
Wikipedia Pozidriv article
None of the hardware stores near me carry it. I guess that Olander does for anyone in the SF bay area.

You can get the pozidrive driver from Richard Sleigh--I got one with my toolkit--of course, as luck would have it, I have yet to find a harp that I need it for--but--if I ever get a Seydel.
BTW--the bluesband harp (a very cheap crap harp) has about 7 or 8 screws--still a piece of crap!
