i just purchased adams electric jam tracks and video waited forever and ever for it to download (i got dialup) . only to find out there is not one single program on my pc that will allow me to open it and use it. so now i'm pretty much out 12bucks because i really don't want to wait for another program to download so i can use them. what a drag .and since we're going through a third party "tradebit".i fear the money is just lost . especially since i downloaded the product even though i'm completely unable to use it.well adam if you read this just keep the money i've learned alot from your youtube videos we'll just call it square . but you really might want to consider another way of doing this stuff. i can tell you right now i'm not purchasing any thing else until you come up with a more user friendly way of doing this.these third party things always suck whether it be tradebit paypal whatever.especially with downloads because the seller has no way of knowing that the downloaded product is in a useful form to the purchaser. i'm pretty much done purchasing things using tradebit or paypal it's just not worth the hassle. everytime i use them there seems to be some kind of problem and it sometimes is slower than hell.

Huh? Which part doesnt work? So you were able to download the product to your computer? If so, your computer doesnt have a video player &/or audio player? What type of files are they in the package, surely its time to upgrade the software on your computer? Maybe we can help by telling you where to get free video & audio players? And yeah, dial-up is slow. Id recommend upgrading that too someday.

i have windows media player and the latest version of itunes. yea i was able to download to my pc all 88.1 megabytes.just unable to open . how many audio and video players do i need to have ? my pc is 1 1/2 yrs. old so it's not completely obsolete. i do know that if i start getting too many of the same type of programs on my pc that i'll start running into compatability and conflict issues. i'm just not willing to download another player on to my pc. i think that if someone is going to sell a downloadable product they should offer more than one bad option. like i said adam can keep the 12 bucks. i just hope that he comes up with a better way . i've learned a helluva lot from adam's youtube vids. but i'm not dealing with anymore tradebit trash.

Dear forum members:
In the interests of full disclosure, I'm going to take the unprecedented step of copying and pasting both Spanky's emailed complaint to me and my response, in reverse order. I didn't realize he'd started a thread to cultivate his grievance even further until I'd replied to his email. So what you get below is from my gut, and doesn't reflect the additional aspersions he casts on me here.
Here's the truth: Roughly 99.9% of the files that people purchase from me flow through the system without a hitch. People get what they paid for, rapidly. Every now and then there's a problem. The problem is NEVER with the files that I'm selling. It's always either with the software that people are using--i.e., they're not up to date, or they've got a compatability problem--or it's an anomaly having to do with Tradebit.
I always drop what I'm doing and try to solve the problem ASAP.
Usually people who experience problems email me assuming the best--i.e., that I'm working in good faith and will try to resolve the problem.
Every now and then I get the other kind of email.
Anyway, here's the full text of our exchange:
"Rick:
I've sold about 400 of the jam tracks + video zip file and yours is the first complaint. One thing I've learned about people who groove to the blues: when something fucks up, they're not inclined to softpedal their feelings, or give ethical musician/business-people like me the benefit of the doubt. They cultivate their grievance until it's big and juicy, then launch it.
I'm refunding your money and certainly don't want--or need--your business. Had you come at me with something less than all guns blazing, I would have suggested the fix that almost always works for those in your position: Quicktime 7.2 or later, which is freeware and easily available.

adam , to say i am disappointed would be an understatement. i purchased your jam tracks and video . well i'm unable to play it on any program on my pc.not media player or itunes probably the two most common music players in the states . so now i'm out $12 and have nothing to show on it but 88.1 mb of used space on my hard drive that i cannot access. maybe this stuff should be in a format that other people can use."

Memo to Spanky:
It's possible you're confusing two very different issues: unzipping the zip file and actually playing what comes out after you unzip
Please google "zip PC" and you'll find various forms of freeware that will unzip the file so that you're left with a bunch of mp3s and one quicktime video.

Spanky - while I realize you've said you will not be downloading another media player to your computer, I will suggest that a free media player - VLC Media Player - is free, and very small for hard drive real estate. You can download it from www.videolan.org.
When I purchased Adam's lessons, I found that I didn't have a proper media player and the Apple players were a problem for me. VLC solved that problem for me by playing his extended videos perfectly.
If you make an exception to consider downloading or changing your media player, VLC is very very likely to do the trick for you.
My 2 cents - take 'em or leave 'em.

adam i meant what i said about keeping the 12 dollars i've got at least that much worth out of your you tube vids and that is an understatement. i meant in no way to disparage your ethics or teaching methods and i apologize for coming off that way . my issue is really with third parties like tradebit and paypal . i'm not satisfied by either one. i do realize that people need to insulate themselves somehow it's not as if you are some multimillion dollar corporation. i guess occasionally i am a hothead . but i can't help but think there have been more than one hitch in 400 downloads . i'm not illiterate although my typing might lead one to believe so. i just have horrible manual dexterity . nor am i technologically illiterate . quiktime is on my pc and i did not mention that ,that works with my itunes. once again please do not refund my money i meant what i said about the benefits i have received from your you tube vids.have you considered selling your albums on itunes ? i don't know how that works. that would probably be easier for some people. i have never doubted your ethics and i do appreciate what you do . i do realize that i didn't give you much time to respond to my problem before going "public " so to speak. and it wasn't meant as an attack upon you . i really think that tradebit and paypal have almost a big brother feel to them when using them because sometimes the money gets held hostage. thats why i refer to them as tradebit trash. i'm sorry about the way i came off . but after waiting for hours for something to download it's very frustrating to have no access to it at all but to see the file sitting there completely inaccessible in my downloads file.

adam just a little bit more . i just reread my original post on this thread . to me it does not read like an attack on you in the slightest. i think it's quite obvious i was referring mainly to the diconnect between third parties and a plain old seller/ buyer concept . i wouldn't hope that you would take that personally but if you do sorry man.as a matter of fact not once did i allude to you being dishonest or unethical. as a matter of fact i did not attack your ethics in my email either .you have it posted right here reread it. further i just found your second complaint , blackbird had a problem using the product and also had to download other software in order to use his purchased product.so i guess my experience may not be the anomoly you think it is. i just may be first one to let you know about it. i'm sorry if you feel that i stepped on your toes .as i have already stated that was not my intention. i don't think my posts or emails quite read like "both guns blazing".and i don't know what you are are referring to with "different aspersions he casts on me." what "aspersions " are you referring to? the ones about getting alot out of your youtube vids. or do you have a problem with me thinking you are ethical. i'm confused.

Spanky:
This was your first Modern Blues Harmonica download from Tradebit. To characterize them as "tradebit trash," as you do above, on the basis of such a limited sample and one remediable disappointment, says more about your approach to life than it does about Tradebit's quality as a purveyor of downloads. It says that you assume the worst of people, systems, "the system," the world. Many blues-people do this. Then they apologize AND refuse to recognize what they're doing, as you do. They make drama. And that, my friend, is the blues.
I can read. Here, again, is what you wrote:
"adam , to say i am disappointed would be an understatement. i purchased your jam tracks and video . well i'm unable to play it on any program on my pc.not media player or itunes probably the two most common music players in the states . so now i'm out $12 and have nothing to show on it but 88.1 mb of used space on my hard drive that i cannot access. maybe this stuff should be in a format that other people can use."
You don't mention Tradebit here--your initial email to me. You tell me you're extremely disappointed; you tell me you purchased something from me and you're unable to play it on your PC, even though your PC has what you characterize as adequate, nationally-known software; you tell me that you've been, in effect, ripped off by your purchase from me; you tell me that the useless thing you purchsed (from me) is clotting your hard drive with useless stuff; and you suggest that by retailing it in only one version, I'm selling something that many people can't use.
Dang. I did all that? I'd feel slightly less chastened if you mentioned Tradebit, but you don't. It's all about your disappointment and, by clear implication, the useless, unworkable crap I'm selling.
I hope that clarifies.
In any case, no hard feelings on my end. I'm in the blues business and know that dealing with disappointed people--"hotheads," as you put it--is part of the business. I've refunded your money. I hope we can just let this drop.
