I just got a Seydel 1847 Silver, key of B flat, and I have a problem on the 2 blow. When I would blow straight into the hole, I got no sound other than the air blowing through the harp. I opened the gap a little, and it got better, but I can still blow and get no sound. If I blow lightly, then increase, no problem. If I blow at a little bit of an angle (by tipping the harp up or down), no problem. But when I blow straight in, like a pea shooter, I get no music. The other thing I've noticed is that when I get no sound, I can feel the air exiting from the right side of the back. But I'm blowing into the 2 blow from the left side of the harp, but I feel the warm air from my breath coming out of the right side of the back. Does anyone know what is causing this?

Sounds to me like you may have got a faulty 1847, though I expect this is rare. Even my cheapo Big Rivers never go all funny on me like that.

Hey Philosofy,
drop Dave Payne a line at the forum on
http://elkriverharmonicas.com and he should be able to advise you. He is the World Wide Seydel Guru and a very nice guy. I'm positive he will know what's wrong and how to fix it.

Sounds like a gapping issue. Take the covers and reset the gap. Even though you say you did it, it most likely didn't take. Those stainless steel reeds are a little tougher to set than the brass ones.

BTW- I was just asked by the Seydel guys to work on Seydels in the USA. I haven't accepted but am considering.

Rupert Oysler is the Seydel USA rep, David Payne is just a dealer, he's very knowledgeable and would happy to answer your questions but he's not the Seydel rep for the states.
