This isn't so much a basic, beginner type question - at least, I don't think so.

I can get really big, fat, juicy wah-wahs below hole 6.

The trouble is that on holes higher than that they become inconsistent.

For example, on an A harp, 7 blow and 10 blow are weak, wehereas 8 blow and 9 blow are fine. On a C harp, 6 blow and 10 blow are weak, whereas 7(which is weak on an A), 8 and 9 blow are fine. I think my 6 blow on my C harp is a tiny fraction flat, but I can't see what difference this would make.

I can't work this out. I hold the harp in the usual way, thumb underneath, middle finger supporting the back, and my fourth finger and pinky forming a little shell. My cupping hand doesn't cup holes 8 through 10, but 8 and 9 are fine, whereas 10 isn't.

I don't know enough to work out whether it's normal to have wah-wah weak spots like this; different characteristics of reeds and all that. If it's normal then I can rest at that; if not, I will have to obsess until I've perfected this aspect of harp playing.

Your thoughts on this one would be much appreciated.

You have to change your hand position for this. I know of no one who can wah on the high notes. just experiment, if you have the determination, it'll come.

Stefan,

Many thanks for that. It was driving me nuts.

I don't really hear high wah's that often... good luck though, if it works that'll be awesome

@PB: if I can get them to work consistently across all the high notes, I'll resurrect this thread. Thanks, Mick
