I'd like y'alls' feedback on your favourite first position tunes, and why you love them.
Adam did a recent Youtube video on Mitch Kashmar's "Dirty Deal", which has awesome upper-octave first position playing.
My personal favourite is Sonny Boy Williamson II's "Trust My Baby". The opening riff on the low end kills me. Sonny Boy's original stays mostly on the lower octave. Kim Wilson does a devestating cover of this tune on his solo album, Tiger Man. Kim's version is over four minutes long and he jumps back and forth between the shattering, bottom-trolling stuff and face-melting riffs on the upper octave. Man, I'd love to have a tab sheet for Kim's version -- one day I'll work on that.

James Cotton does first position on "I Want To Be Loved" on Muddy Water's Hard Again (Alligator, 1977). It's super simple, and super cool...

This morning I thought I'd do some work in 12th position, so after playing some scales I lapsed into the first tune that seemed right - The First Noel (for what it's worth), but then I thought, why play it in 12th instead of in 1st? Buddah has this thing about 12th, so what tunes would he or you guys recommend for 12th that wouldn't sound as good in 1st?
(damn, so much beer, so many spelling mistakes!)

Hoochie Coochie Man with Little Walter playing behind Muddy in 1st position. Ice Cream Man with Little Walter playing in 1st position behind John Brim. Bright Lights, Big City by Jimmy Reed and Hard-Hearted Woman by Big Walter Horton. Personally I don't like much blues played in 1st position. It's too shrill and high-pitched for my ears. I do like the songs I've named with the exception of Hard Hearted Woman. Big Waler is one of my all-time favorite players but the harp parts of Hard Hearted Hearted Woman are about as pleasing for me to listen to as somebody scratching his fingernails on a blackboard. Just my opinion.
