Hi guys!

I'm pretty good with computers, but unfortunately I don't know how to post pictures that well. I have a picture that I would love to post in this form for everyone to see. As most people know, I'm a professional violinist. The picture shows me playing for Jim Caruso's "Cast Party" at Birdland in NYC on 2/16/09. I go to NYC on a regular basis to play. I would love to share this picture with everyone. And I know that Jason Ricci would love to see it because he loves violin music. I would be grateful for assistance. Right now, I have the picture pasted into an email.

You need to host it on something like Flickr or Picassa and then link to it on here. Do you have a hosting account anywhere, or do you have space with your ISP where you can put your files?

Okay, Tookatooka. Thanks a lot. The picture that I want on here is posted publically on www.jim-caruso.com, which is Jim Caruso's site. You go to that site, click on "news" and then on "flickr". And then you go to page 15 and go down to row 5, and it's the picture in the middle that shows me full figure playing at the mike. I'm at work at the moment, and my work computer has certain limitations, so I can't do it from here. I can try on my home computer, which is very old, to see if that works. And if I continue to have difficulty, I will post and let you know.

Carolyn, do you have any videos posted on YT of yourself performing blues on your fiddle. Would love to hear that, and bet a bunch of others on the forum would too! I caught a blues band recently at a local bar with a multi-instrumentalist who played electric fiddle and it was great. As you've said in other posts, the fiddle really can be very bluesie.

Hollistonharper,

No, I don't have that stuff on there yet, but I'm working on it because so many people are asking me for it. One thing I really want to do is have some videos done of me playing at Birdland, and then I'll put those into youtube, myspace and facebook. Yes, violin is great for blues. Violin is a very versatile instrument and works beautifully in quite a number of styles. It sounds great with guitar and harmonica. I also have another picture of me playing with my friend Montana, who is the harmonica/guitar player that I mentioned. We are playing a gig in Baltimore at the Cazbar Inn. And I was playing blues!

Carolyn, this is the correct way to add a link:

<a=href "URL of the file you're linking to" target="_blank">Any text you like, this will be the actual link </a>

target="_blank" will ensure your link opens in a new page so that you are not navigating people out of the forum.

It is considered good practice from an accessibility point of view just to repeat the URL in the any text you like bit - it helps visually impaired people who use screen reading software.

Your link would appear as:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/15577825@N00/3294098467/

MrVerylongusername,

Thank you so much for explaining how to add a link. And thanks so much for posting the picture. Well, I wasn't playing blues at this performance. I was playing "Blue Moon" and "Begin The Beguine", but I tried to throw in a little bit of improvising. The other musicians in the picture are David Budway on piano and Steve Doyle. They are always great to work with. Jim Caruso is the host of Cast Party. The show runs from 10 pm to 1 am every Monday. Practically all of the performers are professionals and they are performing on Broadway, clubs, etc. You can really do any style of music - blues, classical, popular, country, etc. We usually have guest visits from well-known celebrities because Monday is their night off. For example, we have had Liza Minnelli, Billy Stritch, Jamie DeRoy, Julie Wilson, Michael Feinstein, Marissa Berensen, Rex Reed, Linda Lavin, Clint Homes, and the list just goes on and on. It gets very exciting, and it's always lots of fun, but it's best to get there a little early because the place always fills up and sometimes there's even a line outside.
