We are deeply saddened to report the loss of our dear friend, the Blues Legend Mel Brown. Born Oct.7th, 1939 in Jackson, Mississippi, Mel passed away Friday March 20th, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario. Funeral arrangements will be posted as soon as they become available.
Although not a harp player a great blues legend none the less. Mel lived in the area near my home and frequented a number of local establishments. I was pleased to have heard him many times and to hear him play with his long time friend Snooky Prior.
This is another sad moment in Blues history.

I live in Kitchener too, and saw Mel play in recent years on several occasions. He always closed the annual blues festival here. In retrospect, I should have made a point of seeing him play more often. He will be missed indeed.

mr_so&so Interesting to know you're close by. I'm in Waterdown. Used to see Mel play at Molly Bloom's and The Boathouse. Great entertainer for sure and he always did a good job at the Brews,Blues and BBQ's festival. I understand he opened in KW last time Buddy Played there. Missed that performance but two others in the band saw him and said he was still great even with the O2 bottle. On another note, Do you play live anywhere? ---------- "Keep it in your mouth" - XHarp

@XHarp I do not play with a band, or anywhere in public yet... except as I walk down the streets. I checked out your band's Facebook page. Sounds good. I have no Facebook account (and won't have), so could not send a message to you that way. I'll try to catch one of your gigs sometime and introduce myself.

I look forward to that day. Go figure that we have to find our neighbours at a web site from Oxford Mississippi and thank god that we can find our neighbours from a website in Oxford Mississippi.
