That oldwailer is something else. I don't know what his deal is, we play all day and night, I showed him how to build harps and told how not to wear shorts with knee high black socks and white lounge shoes. So here is is 6am and the dude is still crashed out, its not like we went to bed before 2:30am or anything. Geez, where's the respect? It's no wonder I have to beat his ass with a stick.

The man may need loads of sleep and refuse to allow himself be a chew toy for my rottweilers but the dude can flat out play guitar. He's great and I really enjoy hanging around him.

Last night one of my local students was scheduled to have a lesson with me, so instead of banishing Oldwailer to the front room to watch American Idol, he helped me with the lesson.

I posted he entire hour long lesson in six parts on my youtube channel. It's pack with lots and lots of information that I think many if not all of you will find very useful.

Buddha - Watched the first two last night, I'm home sick today and will watch the rest. Thanks for posting! (I agree with you about Oldwailer's shorts & black knee high socks!) Question - when I log into your channel it asks me for a username and password, I leave it blank and hit "ok" and it does it to me three or four times before I can watch the videos, what's up with that?

I don't know what's up with that and I can't figure out how to make it stop. Maybe Oda does because he is host the domain now.

And that for reminding me about his socks. Now where the hell is my stick? It's time to wake up oldwailer.

Thanks for these lessons. That was very insightful. I understand now why all those pros feel like coming over to your place to learn.

It is so cool seeing isaaculla, Buddha, and oldwailer together jammin'. What would be even cooler would be to see more get-togethers with MBHers from differnt parts of the planet who are within shouting distance of each other.
Anybody else besides me in the L.A. area?

I don't know... There is something contagious about Buddah's place... I just can't seem to stop from barfing ever since I went over there! It's amazing that Oldwailer is still alive! :)

But really, that was so cool. Once I get better, I'm definately down to hang again if you feel like it...

EDIT: MBH'ers, even though the net is a fantastic resource, I have learned that there realy IS nothing like real life... If you can, try to swing some real life lessons, jams, whatever... It's totally worth it...

Watched those videos and wow - great!

Isaac & Oldwailer must have gained heaps of info. Loved OWs guitar playing, but didn't like his shorts.

Not a lot happens where I am and it's thankful that we have the internet & access to such generosity and inclusiveness.

Thanks Buddha. I may have been very critical of you on other posts which I'm not going to be a "pansy" by backing away from. Certainly your instructional skills, playing skills and sharing are deserving of much praise.

Of course I haven't posted all day--but the good news is I'm not dead!

I haven't posted cuz I was busy with the "Wax on, Wax off" on all of Buddha's cars--then there was that fu*king fence that needed painting--must have been about four miles long! He assures me that next time I come he will show me a harp. Well, I guess that's OK--I just wish he would stop calling me "Santa-hopper" and making fun of my cool shorts and black socks.

I got to go over and hear Buddha play with a certain "chick singer" (Just Kidding!) this evening--she is really good and she writes a lot of really cool songs--kind of country music, but Buddha makes it sound more like cross-over. I was surprised at how little of the real nuances of music you actually hear when you hear it on YT--Hope is actually an excellent singer--I hope she and Buddha get a chance to make some great recordings. She also makes a really good Jack & Coke--I'd steal her in a heart-beat but Buddha already told her that I'm Santa so now she doesn't respect me at all--just keeps telling me she wants a Martin for Christmas. Besides, my wife already thinks I have enough pets.

I'm glad people are enjoying the lessons--I sure learned a lot of stuff. I'm finally going full-out on learning to overblow--the 12th position sound is just so cool in many types of music. Buddha was using it a lot with Hope tonight at the rehearsal--great sound.

I'll post again later to review some custom harps--right now I gotta go see if a doctor can remove this dog from my ass--it's beginning to hurt a little bit. . .

Funny stuff. Great interaction. Shows what can happen when a few folks from this board get together. Have some fun and do a little jamming and learn. Used to have an office in Mesa (I am in PA) and love the area. I was just there on vacation.

Oldwailer - I am 61, bald, white beard.. White socks or no socks. You are going to give old farts a bad name. Bad enough they had a bone marrow drive at the office yesterday and i go in to volunteer and they said i was too old - over 55. So I just replied 'Yeah, well i can get into the movies with cheap tickets and you can't so there." BUT - I wear white sock or no socks. I hope you are not wearing red Converse nigh top sneakers...

I enjoyed the videos and plan to rewatch them. Sure wish I could get some good lessons & group jamming. I live in PA on the southeast side. Dont have the time or money to travel so far, at the moment. Oh well, I did find some occassional action in Philly.

I am in Bethlehem, PA. I never played in public. I want to play for my wife some day, but she hears me practice. My sister says I am playing well, but she is on medication. I play worse than a lot of guys on YOu TUbe and also better than a lot of guys on You tube. Which means nothing.

djm3801> I am 68. Have played in public but only recently & on 3 occasions. It's really no big deal. For practice I was told at one of the gigs by a young harp player that he regularly played at nursing homes. Thinking about it I really dont want to go there as one day soon I might be an inmate!

Seriously though I keep myself very fit, and never think of myself as getting older, except that I don't tolerate the late nights anywhere as good as I used to. Not bald, so don't have to resort to growing any facial hair. Don't wear long socks of any colour in fact I never wear any footwear around the house and only sandals when I venture out & hiking boots when camping- bush walking.

The climate where I live is sub tropical so shorts are the go all year. Since the invention of cargo shorts with heaps of pockets I find they are the best 'fashion' accessory for a harmonica nut as it allows for the concealed carrying of quite a few harps.

Love getting into the movies & on buses & trains with cheap tickets. Got to be some advantages.

I stayed up 'till a million o' clock in the morning watching the lesson videos last night. Interesting insight into Chris' teaching style. I like it. Oldwailer's just up the road from me, in relative terms. Gonna have to twist his arm to jam sometime.

@Blackbird: Where are you? Me and Snakes get together once in a while to jam a bit and drink a little beer at his house.

As far as I'm concerned, it would be great if you could join us--of course, it's his house--he'd have to be up for it too. . .

@ Oldwailer: I'm in downtown Seattle - Queen Anne hill area. I don't have a car, but if the bus will get there and back, or I can offer gas money for the inconvenience, I have Saturday afternoons/eves and Sundays free for the most part. I'm at a stage now where I think I could improve simply by involving other people in the mix to get some jam time and have input that isn't online video or my own judgements and thoughts. I'm really interested in the dynamic of jamming and learning with humans after absorbing as much as I can from Adam's generous lessons.

Very cool, Blackbird! We should get something together by this next Saturday--I could probably drive down there if it is possible at your place--or, if Snakes is up for it, we could go over to his house--whatever.

Write me an email if you're interested--get my email address by just clicking on my username. . .

I could do Saturday night or Sunday this weekend. Cool! I could even pick you up at the bus station in Everett if you like Blackbird. You would take the 510 bus (Sound Transit) which is one of the blue and white ones. Give me a heads up at wfollis@msn.com as oldwailer forgot to tell you about the fact we could also drink some bourbon (for religious reasons only...) and I'll need to pick some up. (I also work in downtown Seattle and take the 510. work phone is 206 386-6838.)

Wow, sounds like a great little get together is happening right here in the Wesco. I'd ask to sit in but Everett Community College spring quarter just started and I'm pretty swamped with book work, and I have a feeling it's just going to get worse as the week goes on : (

Well, Snakes, I was going to email you and find out what we could do about a get-together--but you beat me to it! I'm definitely in--Blackbird already emailed me and said that he is up for it, so it should be a good time--

So now we just gotta get gorignak to realize that book work is not all that important when it interferes with jamming! (This is from a man who spent a total of 11 years in college and holds no degrees--well, except for the one informal one in Illegal Substance Arts)!

Snakes - I got your reply, will send an email tonight to coordinate further. One foot out the door to catch another bus at the moment, but reviewed the 510 schedule and as long as I'm out of Everett by 10:30pm, I can hop the 510 home anytime saturday.

Oldwailer - Saturday night or Sunday? I could give Blackbird a ride home if needed on Saturday. Heck maybe we could even catch a show in Seattle if we do Saturday. Want me to see who's playin' where? Copied you on my reply to Blackbird and have given the spousal unit a heads up regarding our intentions. Sounds like a cool time.

Gorignak,
If it is a history or computer/server type class I can help (at least until the libations take effect - LOL!)

Well we should hook up sometime later then. Been in your shoes. Keep on plugging away as it will be worth it. What does the name gorignak come from?
