I bought my first harp on 2 April last year, my 48th birthday, so my first anniversary is coming up. I'm thinking of buying myself a Super Chromonica in C for my 49th birthday.

But the first anniversary is a double-edged sword, don't you think: before it, you feel special, and you feel that being shitty is justifiable. But after your first anniversary, there's no excuse any longer and reality hits you in the face!

are you shitty? really? or is it you just aint as jaw dropping as you had hoped you would be when you picked up this toy?

i think most of us consider this a journey. everyone is on a different pace. i'll bet big bucks you are better than me at the one year mark. and i would bet you are better than me after i was playing for 5 years.

be happy at whatever level you may be at, but dont be complacent.

why the chromatic? why not a customized harp or a mic or a full set of your favorites or a cumberland case or a start for the blues cruise fund?

happy anniversary, too!

Hey Andrew I am in a similar situation. I am approaching my 2nd year though. I was 50 when i started. I waited a year to buy an amp and have ordered a Harrison harp for this year although it will not be here until Christmas. I am thinking of getting a JT 30 mike also. I bet you are better than lots of players were at one year.
Just think of how many advantages the web gives us over those who started a long time ago.
Also think of how many quit and do not make it a year!

I'm better than I was a year ago, but shitty compared to how I want to be.

"why not a customized harp or a mic or a full set of your favorites or a cumberland case or a start for the blues cruise fund?"

These are also fine ideas, and I will keep them in mind.

Happy birthday & anniversary

I got a cumberland case for my birthday last year (57) strongly recommend for utility and 'wow' factor if you play live.
About £70 shipped to uk in about 3 weeks. Cheaper if you are stateside of course.
14 harp case in thick black quality leather with each harp hold indexed with key embossed.
Have a good one!

Andrew: I am still playing shitty after coming back to the harp 3 years ago. It's a very long journey. I was, still am, plagued by bad habits in my playing. I started on the harmonica when I was a child, self tought with no instructional material, but gave it away for 50 years. What I learnt early is still with me some good but a lot bad.

I'm also better than I was a year ago.

It's great fun and a challenge. Happy anniversary.

I am about at my first. Playing stuff I never thought I could, but now want to refine what I am doing. Practice! 48. You are a kid. Happy Birthday. Wish I had those years back so enjoy them.

Happy Anniversary,

If it's any consolation it took me nearly 3 years to be reasonably happy with my 3 draw bend. This must be some kind of record. When I used to keep giving up, it was frustration that was my biggest enemy. I suppose that patience is the opposite of this. It's a slow journey, but one well worth taking. All the best.
