Well, James Cotton will finally be here on Friday night at the Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley, MA. I just ordered my tix and can't wait. This is the first "big name" harp player that I'm going to see live (aside from Magic Dick w/J. Geils about 500 times as a kid...)

Anyone else in the MA area planning on attending?

Just to warn you, he's a bit past his prime these days, but still good. He also has an awesome guitarist now

I believe Im getting tickets for the Poconos blues festival in PA. It's blues acts all weekend. James Cotton band headlines on that Saturday. So, unless I change my mind about this event Ill more then likely see him in July.

Yes, I've read that his voice is really going due to health issues but I expect it to be a great show anyway. A good little local blues band, "Lil' Stevie and the Westsiders" are opening for him.

It'll be a big "Music Day" for me as I'm going to see the Boston Symphony Orchestra ealier in the day with my 11 y.o. daughter and her school band. By the way, we're bringing her up right: her favorite musician is Susen Tedeschi...lol.

Man that's quite a day! Any chance you caught the J. Geils Band reunion at the House of Blues?

No Zack, I missed the reunion. Geils also played as a special guest with The James Montgommery Band last weekend at the same place I'm going to see Cotton but I didn't find out about it until it was already sold out.

The last I knew, Geils owned and ran a custom race car shop in Ayer, MA which is about 15 minutes from my house. I've never seen him around town. He and MD would play local blues festivals that are pretty good romps.

Saw Cotton on January 25th up here in Washington state. It was the second day of two shows in a row. He doesn't sing at all. At least he didn't up here. When he talks he sounds like he has some damage to his vocal cords. His band is awesome (as is the singer of the band) and you should still see him. Just don't get your expectations too high compared to where he used to be skill-wise. I am glad I went to see him.

Hey Mark,

The show was excellent. Opening band, Lil Stevie and the Westsiders were tight and smooth. They only played about 40 minutes which was fine since I was there to see Cotton but I'd go see them again if they were nearby.

Mr. Cotton is definitely not in good health. He showed up and sat at a table in the back of the club while his band and his wonderful wife got things set up. I decided to meet the man so I went over told him I was a big fan, etc. and he was very pleasant but he struggles to talk so I didn't stay and bother him. However he seemed sincerely gracious.

The band is simply incredible. I could go on and on but I won't bore anyone. Suffice it to say that they really rocked.

Mr. Cotton did maybe 60 minutes of music over two sets. He walked to the stage with a little help from his wife, then sat on a chair and wailed. Did I notice that his 'skills' were eroding, yes. Did I, or anyone there, care? Not one bit! The man's a legend and can still really play.

Overall I really felt like I was at something special as I can't imagine he'll go on touring much longer.
