First, an introduction! I finally stopped lurking and started an account. I began playing harmonica only a month ago, but have made monster strides. In large part, Prof. Gussow is to blame for that. (Twenty years of meditation has probably also helped - I know Adam mentions meditative breathing more than once.) I think that everyone has an instrument, whether it is voice, or piano, or harp, or what have you. I played classical guitar for about a year (long time ago), and piano recently, and thought that maybe the saxophone was going to be "my" instrument. Well, it turned out that the Mississippi Saxophone is my instrument. (How do I know? Perhaps because I want to practice every free minute I get!) And I couldn't be happier. So I'm a beginner, but very happy to be here, and happy to be making the journey.
What I would really love some help with is an explanation of what Little Walter is doing at the beginning of Mellow Down Easy, or even a tab - but I think an explanation would be better. I can tell he's playing a D harp, and I can tell he's doing some bouncing between a 2 draw and a bent 2 draw, but beyond that I'm having trouble. There is a French fellow on YouTube who explains (in French) a lick in Butterfield's version of the song, but it isn't quite the same. I really want to figure out how to play those licks! I really dig Mellow Down Easy, especially the first 20 seconds. Help?
