Some good deals on eBay for Suzuki ProMaster M350V. Replacement reedplates are available too.
If in the UK try www.harmonicas-direct.com and ask for Pete. ProMaster 350v £44.95. £1.50 P and P. ---------- When I'm not blowing, I'm drawing.

Can you bend notes on a valved harp?

The premise on the Suzuki valved Promaster is that it is easier to bend. Am going to get one someday just to find out. I'd like to see what the valved system looks like inside.

The valves are thin plastic strips. The end is glued on over the rivet end of the reed.
They allow you to blow bend the the lower holes and draw bend the upper holes.
To me, they don't have any affect on normal bending. They do make overblows and overdraws impossible, but (I think) in order to get the note that a 6 overblow would yeild, you could draw-bend the 7, for example.
The valves do rattle, sometimes. I'm not so sure I like them.

I bought a Valved Pro Master just to try. With the valves actually every note sounds a bit different than on an unvalved harp. As gene said you can't overblow or overdraw but you get the same notes with bending:
-->4OB = 5 blow bend -->5OB = 6 blow bend -->6OB = 7 draw bend
The additional blow bends (holes 1 - 6) are quite easy to get. I find the additional draw bends (7 - 10) harder to get at first.
I like the harp and it's quite easy to translate licks from a regular diatonic to a valved diatonic. I'd definitely give it a try as it opens up totally new perspectives.
It's true that the valves rattle on certain notes but that doesn't disturb me too much. At least you don't have the squeaking of the OBs ;)
