I if digress here I apologise, but I'll get to the point. The topic of "What makes a blues harp player" made me think of Rick Estrin. What modern blues harp player embodies more of those qualities than him? (You have to add "sharp dressed man" to the adjectives.) Little Charlie and the Nightcats used to play in L.A. all the time and I got to see them on numerous occasions. Which brings me to the topic. His trick of playing the harp without using any hands. I went up to him one night after they finished a set (amiable/good natured does apply to him) and asked him "How to you DO that?" "Just put it in your mouth and blow." was his reply. I can achive a single note by tongue blocking, but I can't play riffs the way he does. Anybody else had any luck doing this trick? I think Sonny Boy Williamson used to do the same thing.

I have nothing against racks. I'm a hugh John Hammond fan. That title is more of a joke than anything...

Have you seen Bufaloslider playing the Irish Washerwomen and the Kesh jig on a G harmonica with no hands or harmonica rack.

It's actually pretty easy if you can tongue block and it's much easier with one of the smaller style harps - like a Marine Band. Stick the harp in at an angle, grip it gently between your teeth and play away by tongue blocking the bottom four holes.
