Chaps, This really isn't a harp question but I thought some of you guys might be able to help. A few weeks ago my laptop started crashing all the time as the internal memory was full. A guy at work told me to buy an external hard drive and transfer all my stuff to this, then he would wipe my laptop hard drive and re-install XP back on it and hey presto...I'd have a "new" laptop. Well everything went exactly as he said and I was very pleased until I tried to play my music. A message came up on the screen saying "validate your copy of windows" and when I pressed validate it said I had a bad copy of XP and it won't let me use media player. The guy at work assures me it's a genuine copy but has been unable to get Media player to run. In the meantime I've downloaded Foobar and use this to play my music but I'd really like to get the media player to work. Any ideas??

No. No ideas, but I'm wondering if you could have simply bought a bigger memory card. (Or are laptops different than PCs in that regard?)

Not sure Gene but my guy at work seems to think it's something to do with the copy of xp he loaded. It's funny but everything else works perfectly.

BTW unless you manage to validate the Windows installation, I'm afraid you'll only have a working copy for 30 days. After that Windows forces you to validate or shut down - no way around it.

Do you have a copy of the WinXp install disks that came with your computer when you bought it? These may also be called "recovery" cd's. They should have a serial number that matches the computer's serial number as registered in the MS databases. You should be able to reinstall using those disks without a problem. I've done this several times with no issue. If that doesn't work, then you could alway's install Linux instead. I've been very please with the latest Ubuntu. It runs just fine on a machine I have that was "made" for windows XP. ---------- -------------- The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"
