Hey guys, I need some guidence on my next harp but there is a twist. In about a weeks time, my school thinks its a good idea to drop a whole year level in the middle of the Australian bush for 7 days. Now I want to bring a harp but I dont want to bring my shiny, new Marine Band cause its gonna get wrecked. So I need some ideas.
First off, I want it to be cheap because, well as the old saying goes " when I take out a twenty cent peice out of my pocket, the Queen blicks in the light". Its also going to get wrecked because there will be no safe place to put it and the packs are heavy so it could be crushed.
I also would like if it could last the whole 7 days but that just could be a fools dream. Its long-life over bendabillity in this situation. As soon as those seven days are gone though, I'm gonna throw it out because dental hygine isnt a priority on this camp and my friends are going to bug me for a shot. If I do use it afterwards, I'm probably gonna inhale a mixture of dirt, crappy iodine water and cous cous.
If anyone could help me out with what to buy, it would be awesome. I dont know if anyone has been in this situation because i know its my first time. Names for the harp are also welcome.

If you're going on a trip I would use a harp that you've already broken in. You don't want to buy a crappy harp and get stuck with a crappy 2 hole draw.
I would take any harp (even your Marine Band). Harps don't break that easily (it may get scratched, but what the hell) and once your back from your trip just rinse it off with water and jam on.

Take your regular. I use my first Big River as a beater. I cary it in my back pocket every day. Camped with it. Dragged it up mountains. Hiked with it. Swam with it. I just change out the reeds once a year. If you are really worried about it, cary it in it's plastic case or better yet by a cool leather case.

Have a close look at the Suzuki Folkmaster. Cheap, but not nasty. Good tone. Robust ie well constructed and airtight. Has a strong small plastic carry case. As the Folkmaster is plastic bodied you can wash it if you drop it, or lend it. And if in the event you destroy it then its not a lot of $'s lost.

I'm a dirty archaeologist, and I do hardcore rough and tumble fieldwork in the deserts of Jordan. I always carry a harp on me while doing field work (I like to play while surveying, and it livens up lunch time on digs), and I've never crushed or gummed up any of the harps. Scratched? Sure. Ruined? No. For what it's worth, the harps I've carried in the field have been marine bands, blues harps, and special 20's. I've still got a spec 20 that I've been taking in the field for 5 years. It's still my go-to D harp. ---------- -------------- The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"

I'm sure most any harp can withstand a week long camping trip...

Just a little tip. Recently I was in Bass Pro Shop and bought a belt case for a folding knife. Works perfect to carry a harmonica. The case is stiff leather so resists crushing. They have several sizes so take your harmonica with you. If you do not have a Bass Pro Shop in your area, any sporting goods shop should have these as well, check Walmart. Good luck on your trip! db
