One of my homeboys from the NYC scene of the 1990s is a guy named Mason Casey. He's seriously underrepresented on YouTube, but I found one fantastic clip. He's jamming with Popa Chubby (another friend of mine from the NYC scene), and at 4:30 into the 10-minute vid, he strips off his shirt and gets down into some powerful shuffle blues.
If you like what you here, please visit his MySpace page and say Hi. Let him know that Adam sent you.
The second guitar player, BTW, is Arthur Nielson, Shemekia Copeland's longtime guitarist. Watching these three guys lay it down reminds me of many, many late nights I spent in the dives of lower Manhattan. This is New York blues.

I was really hoping to see the transition to shirtless. Did he rip it off like the Hulk? Did he stop playing and take it off, fold it, place it on his amp? Did a crazed female fan rip it off? I mean exactly what went down that this guy lost his shirt?
I bought Mason's CD Sofa King Badass about 4 months ago based solely on the cover. I didn't know who he was at all. Just got the CD because I thought he looked like such a cool guy (the crown really sold it for me). The sound wasn't what I expected, but I like it. It has this funk vibe to it. Very original. I had no clue you even knew about him Adam, that's awesome! I've never seen a clip of him play before, thanks for sharing.
Great Video but first what did I learn. The first cut demo's how you can play one riff for all 12 bars of the jam. Many beginners have problems with jamming and this is a good easy example of staying in the groove with the band. Second cut also demonstrated this somewhat
The reason Mason took his shirt off is that he could. The guy must spend as much time in the gym as he does practicing harp. He's buff and the audience loves it. Notice Chubby didn't disrobe
Chubby made hs statement with his playing. I go see a band I want music, not antics. The girls like it, fine. He is a good player. Voice is OK for blues.
