Hey guys, I was wondering what you thought about playing along with songs, and not just those with Harmonicas in them. Do you think its a fruitful exercise to try and jam along with some of the earlier acoustic blues guiatr players, for instance? Of course I've tried playing along with Robert Johnson, Blind Willie McTell etc. but have found a bit tricky...Leadbelly is easier cause you can model yourself off of the Sonny Terry recordings.
What I'm really interested in is learning that killer timing that Adam always talks about (Jason Ricci even mentions it as the sine qua non of harp playing too). Should I be trying to imitate the exact rhythyms of the greats? Should I be trying to compliment their timing with my own? It seems to be a slippery thing to try to grasp...

practice playing along with drums if you want to work on your time. Copying another harp player will never get you there.
When I was first learning to play, I guess I still do this on occasion, I would drive around in the car and play along with whatever came on the radio.

We have laws against cellphones and driving, but I think harps are in the clear!
