This is kinda hard to answer (not to say: I don't have the answer). Especially because the term groove isn't really defined.

As far as I know a shuffle is just a certain rhythm. So as long as you incorporate that rhythem there is a lot that you can play.

What do you mean by 'groove'?

To be 'in a groove' means to do the same thing for a long time.
Things just go along in the same old groove.
Don't get stuck in the groove, do something different.
Or,
Thing's are going well, we're in the groove = everything is going successfully now!
Or,
The blues band is in the groove = they are all playing well together
Or,
'Groovy baby' as I used to say in 1969 means 'I approve of what you are doing, and can you continue in the same manner (groove) as in any activity not just music.

Must admit that I use "groove" and "rhythm" fairly interchangeably so I think I know where Tiandrezio is coming from.

While you can't beat a good shuffle for blues playing, especially a "Texan shuffle" I most like to play over blues-funk grooves - something like "Miss You" by the Stones gives plenty of scope for riffs, different phrasings, dynamics etc

I've also been going to a few blues jams recently, so have been playing (something like) Errol Linton's reggae take on "Howlin for my Darlin" if only to break up the shuffle/slow blues/shuffle treadmill. Lots (and lots) of space with reggae, I find you really have to make your riffs count.
