so i started out on MB harps then i got a SP20 an found it so much more easy to play. i played nothing but SP20 for awhile an developed my skills some on it. i picked one of me MB today an found that now i know how to play better i can play the MB better. its still slightly harder to play but i can actually make it sound good compared to when i first started on a MB. an i was haveing so much fun playing the MB today because the tone is so much better then a plastic harp. it was a little surpriseing too because back then i thought that MB was just a poorly made harp. but now that im improving i realise its not all that bad. just wanted to share that. any one else feel the same way?
i think the reason i picked it back up is cause at the jason ricci show there was this 15 year old who was pretty good an i think he was playing MB. an he had a younger brother how was realy realy young. maybe like 5 or 6 an he was playing a MB an even he wasnt bad. very talented family.

Ive had a similar breakthrough yesterday with a Special 20 in G. I bought it 2 years ago but couldnt play the thing, not because it was a special 20 but because it was low key, i just couldnt get to grips with it. I picked it up yesterday and just couldnt put it down.My bends are more controlled with it and i think it sounds great. Gonna get me a Low C or a low D next. I think the point im trying to make is we must be getting better at playing. Harp on dude!!!

I love that. I have a funny mix of harps. I keep buying different brands and models and the coolest thing is going back to harps I haven't played for some time. Or just play on a certain harp for some time and then try to do the same stuff in a different key. For me it's a very good training as it constantly forces me to adjust my playing style (embouchure etc.). Funny to observe how my favorite harp constantly changed. After almost 2 years of playing I finally have a few all time favorites it seems (harps that always feel right and that I can hit any note easily with).

one big thing i noticed is how much smaller the MB feels in my mouth then the SP20. i think its cause of the way the cover plates are shaped. wich is a good thing.

jon the cover-plates on the SP 20 are actually smaller(which in my opinion is a bad thing), but the plastic mouth piece sticks out a little. The MB has no part that sticks out! Try putting you MB covers on your SP 20. I think you'll find that has a lot to do with why they sound so different. I don't like SP 20's, but with MB plates on them they are very good harps for playing blues! I play MB's that I have sealed and SP'2 with MB covers and the SP has a softer mellower sound that is perfect for blues. The sealed MB has a ballsier ripping type sound. I wish I had those 15 years ago when I played in Rock band! They are perfect in my opinion for a more in your face kind of thing. That being said. I love mine!
