So I think I realized something on a conscious level that has been in front of my face the whole time. I was practicing yesterday & then watching some youtube videos.
Jason teaching something really basic & he says he's going to play 2 draw, 4 blow, 4 draw, etc. Then he plays the note &, I think, for the first time really heard what I think my playing has been missing. He played a note but it came with what sounded like some surrounding chord.
So I tried to fool around w/ this a bit and noticed how much better my 2draw on C harp sounds when I allow the harp to pull away a bit & get some surrounding chord notes. All of a sudden my boring 2draw sounds bluesy.
So how is this really done? Let the harp move forward a bit? Open the corners of your lips a bit? I guess you have to have definate starting note & then let the rest in otherwise you are just playing a chord, right? I also note this is not always done. Sometimes when you want a 2draw you want just that others you want it plus the but of chord, right? I would think in non blues music there's not so much of this also.

Good catch Ryan. This is one of the characteristics that shapped the sound of the harmonica. It is also why alot of guys swear by tongue blocking. But it can be done with lip pursing too. Adam has a video of this, I believe it is one of his earliest ones.
As for me I flare out the sides of my mouth a little bit to get the whole chord before I clamp down on the single note. I also let a little bit of the 4 in on my 3 draw, and a littl bit of the 5 in on my 4 draw. I use to set and listen to Little Walter and wonder how he got is 6 blow to "Ring". Then one day I realized he was letting a little of the 7 blow in.
