Hi I am in need of an honest opinion. I have been playing the harmonica for two years and am trying to bridge the gap between blues and hip-hop. I would love honest criticism and new friends. Please check out my myspace page and let me know what you think. myspace.com/theblacknote

Well here's my honest opinion: you need to kick that shit into overdrive towards the last 3/4s of the song, or even the last half of the song. The beat was laid back and mellow, but it was still more commanding than the harp. I kept waiting for you to cut loose and blow me away. I'm all for a bridge between blues harp and hip-hop, but if you're going to do it, the harp has gotta take command of the situation.

Have you seen/heard a guy named Jason Knight? Look him up on youtube.

Other than that, I think you are a very good harp player for two years. You don't have the thickest, deepest richest tone, but you do have GOOD tone. Something I am struggling with my self.

Keep in mind, I've only been playing for 2.5 years, so my opinion may not hold any weight, but it is my opinion, none the less. I wish you all the luck and success.

Here's a song by Jason Knight. To be honest I think he has a thin tone too. But I still dig his music.

Blacknote, you've got a video on youtube called 'warriors call' or something like that, right? I saw that when it was first posted! y'been practicing.

I see that you're black! I've been actually making a mental note of modern black harmonica players. There isn't many, or am I not looking in the right places? Aside from Brandon Bailey, Yonnett, and Charlie Sayles -- who else is there?

Oda check out Sugar Blue. He is the best harmonicist in my opinion. Preston I appreciate the honesty, my tone needs work.

James Cotton is pretty modern I think.

Billy Branch too I think.

If you like Sugar Blue, check out Russ Green. He looks like he'll be carrying the Sugar Blue torch into the future.

James Cotton really is the man. He plays with such intensity. Branch I haven't looked into.
