Just to remind everyone that there is ONE DAY LEFT to submit your entry for the Harpfriends Playalong contest! I'll start a voting thread on the morning of May 1st. I'll put a playlist player at the top of the thread. Folks can use that to view the vids, and then vote for their favorite. Remember that the top 5 will be forwarded to Adam and Chris to vote on (if they are still willing?).

Let's get it on!

I noticed there are only like 9 or so vids- also, some of the vids are private, which could make it pretty darned hard for people to vote on

Thanks for the reminder, isaacullah.

I've spent all sodding bl**dy day p*ss arsing around trying to get stuff that will convert .avi files to .flv.

Anyone else in the UK out there using Three's prepay broadband network? Sometimes, it takes me 20 minutes or so just to load a single webpage, let alone go through the whole rigmarole - nice word that - involved in buying software to download.

Anyway, I've got all the teq stuff sorted. Now, I've got to trawl through the contest threads to read up on the upload protocol: you know, private, public, title, etc.

I know that this has already been explained, but if anyone's able to offer a summary, if we ever meet, I'll owe you a beer.

Good luck everyone.

Once again, thanks again to IA and GH for their work on this.

So: here are the entry rules as I see them, and since I was elected dictaor of this contests, this is how it will be! :)

1) Record yourself playing along with Oldwailers donated backingtrack (Slow_Blues_III.mp3, see old thred for download). Video is best, but an audio-only "movie" will be accepted, especially if put up neat pictures in the background.

2) Go to YouTube, login as "harpfriends" (post an urgent request in this thread to get the password if you don't have it already)

3) Upload your video, making sure that YOUR NAME is somewhere in the title and preferably also in the description.

4) If you set the video to be "private" (ie only those logged to YouTube as "harpfriends" can see it), I will make it public FOR THE DURATION OF THE VOTING PERIOD ONLY. After that, I'll go back and re-set it to be private.

5) Videos can be submitted up until 10am Arizona time on Mayt 1st. Why 10 am arizona time? Cause that's when I'm gonna check 'em, that's why! :)

6) I will start a thread on this forum for voting. I'll embedd a YouTube "playlist" player int he first post of the thread so that ALL videos can be viewed from this forum. This avoids folks having to switch back and forth between YT and here.

7) The MBH members voting period will be one week (friday to friday). Please VOTE IN THE OFFICIAL THREAD ONLY. Votes placed as YouTube comments will not be counted (I warned ya!).

8)At 12 AM, Friday May 8th, voting will be closed. I'll tally the votes, and the top 5 will be declared. At that point, hopefully Adam and Chris will look over the top five, and make their rankings of them.

9) If you cannot get into Harpfriends before the deadline, embed your YouTube video IN THIS THREAD, and I will try to move it over to the voting thread. This is a "last-ditch, I'm gonna be screwed" emergency thing. Not a "I'm feeling lazy and that sounds easier for me" thing...

10) Then we will all feel good about ourselves and how cool our super-awesome online community here at the MBH forum is!

So here is a dumb question from someone who should know the answer. I'm looking at web cams now to hopefully participate in the next play along...

So I plug in my new web cam after the purchase - now what application does the web cam capture the file to and what do I do with it? I don't want to bother anyone for a detailed answer, but how about a url to a tutorial or a general statement and then I'll figure it out. Such as - do I use Windows media player? The file needs to be in .flv format? Not sure I am familiar with that file format. I feel like a stupidio. I checked online and couldn't find anything specific. I have a digital camera, but heard there was a 100 MB limit and my experience with DVD authoring has me thinking I would be hard pressed to use my Digital camera and getting a file under 100 MB. There's gotta be a simple answer that I don't know about.

yeah, I haven't bought it yet... I did go to the store to check on one and asked if it did. Evidently I got a non-savy salesman who stated that there was no software or even drivers that were associated with the device. I'll just need to make the purchase as I can figure it our once I see it.

Thanks Buddha!

Patrick, I was thinking about that. I'm not sure how many people are going to vote, but judging by the "where are you from" thread, there are probably around 200 or so active or semi-active members. It'll probably be okay to tabulate if people vote for more than one video. Top three might be too much. How about pick two instead? I'll post instructions on how many videos to vote for, don't vote over and over again, no nasty comments, etc. on the voting thread.

I just got mine uploaded. I didn't realise how crap the mics are on some laptops: the backing track - at full volume - is almost non-existent. Still, never mind. we live and learn. Anyway, I say bully to anyone for uploading anything, however it turns out.
