If there are any fans of RJ out there--there is a new remaster available for less than ten bucks--51+ minutes of his music. The best recording quality of this music I have ever heard! The guitar and voice is great!

This is exciting news to a long-time fan of a man who Eric Clapton referred to as "the most important musician who ever lived." At least for blues--I think that is true.

strange format--the MP3 is one file--not broken into songs--but very nice quality. . .

Check it out at

Wow the other ones were clear, some hiss. But these one, it sounds pretty good! I love Robert Johnson. Sadly doesn't have my favorite song, "Love In Vain." In one of the takes he speaks at the beginning.

"Love in Vain" is on the Volume 2 ;)

The sound seems different from the versions I have, but I'm not sure it's better : the guitar sounds more present, but the voice is not so good. Perhaps it's because I only listened to the samples there. Worth checking the CD's, if I can find them.

I love Robert Johnson. Listening to him made me want to discover all these old bluesmen like Sleepy John Estes, Kokomo Arnold, Blind Willie Mc Tell and so on, and I'm really into these now.

Latest discover : Scrapper Blackwell, his recordings from 1959-60 are just fantastic.

Just bought vol 2 for laughs and giggles. Sounds good. disappointed to find out Oldwailer was right (he told us so) it is one file. meaning it is like having one hour long song. There is no skipping to the next track. What's up with that.

Just purchased the Robert Johnson Complete Recordings CD from Chapters/Indigo (in Canada). It was a recent re-issue of the same thing I used to have on cassette, but all digitally remastered with no hisses and scratches. This was from a UK label, I'll edit to include the details. Anyway, great stuff and only $15 Canadian.

OW: If you use windows, I use a little free tool called "Mega MP3 Splitter" to break up podcasts and other large MP3's into smaller ones. It's simple to use: it plays the MP3, and where ever you want it to split off a track, you add a marker in the time line. It has a slider bar that lets you skip ahead, fastforward, rewind and stuff. It does a great job.

Sounds interesting, Isaacullah. Can you post a link to the splitter?

Thank you, Isaac--Master of free shit! I haven't done the splitting yet--it will take a little time for a dozen or so songs--but I got the program.

Andrew--just copy and paste "Mega MP3 Splitter" into you're google box--then Hit the Make it so button. Google works great for everything from programs to blow--er--jobs. . .

Thanks Oldwailer. I was being lazy, combined with, maybe a trusted link is better than risking a virus.

So I've just looked around and found two versions that AVG was happy with. One was about 500k, the other was about 800k. One of the download sites rated their version as 2 1/2 starts out of 5. So there was some sense in asking what version was recommended!

It looks like the bigger one is a later version of the smaller one, but that still begs the question, is there a more recent version than 2006?

wow - that's incredible - thanks for sharing.
listening to people like RJ reminds me of how good the "old" guys were - changing styles and rhythm at the drop of a hat.

Hey dudes. I always always always always download my free shit from download.com. If you don't know, download.com is hosted by CNet, and they check their shit out before hand. Not only are you guaranteed a virus-free, spyware-free copy, but there are user reviews and editor reviews and ratings to help you judge it. You can search by OS, level of "freeness", and keywords.
For open source software, you MUST download it from sourceforge. THat's the one true place of open source stuff. Just areminder, all opensource software is free. Not all free software is open source. I prefer opensource, but I'll take free any day, as long as it isn't adware, spyware, or malware.

Back to RJ... the collection the I got was a 2-CD set, "Robert Johnson, The Complete Collection" from Not Now Music, London, England, NOT2CD270 (2008), $15 Canadian.

At the same time, I purchased another interesting 2-CD compilation called "An Intoduction to the Blues -- 50 Nostalgic Tracks the Defined a Genre" on the Performance label from www.deltamusic.co.uk. I like this a lot too. It runs the gammit.
