Hello fellow harpers! I'm fairly new to the forum so you might have already discussed this, I play special 20s and I've got to buy a few more keys. I'm looking to branch out so I've been thinking of the Marine Band any feed back would be nice.. Thank you all Joe from Ohio.

You'll notice a big difference in air tightness Joe. The Marine band will be a lot leakier and a little harder to play. There are some people who (and you'll hear from them) who will tell you that the MB sounds better but that is not my experience and I play only special 20s myself. I think it would be good to buy one so you can make that judgement yourself though. If you like the sound then there are a few things you can do to tighten the MB up like sealing the comb, embossing, gapping etc. Or if you've got a few $ spare you could buy a custom harp. We have our own Buddha who makes them and I have yet to see any negative feedback from anyone who bought one.
It's a very subjective thing Joe so I'd buy one, see what you think and make up your own mind. Or...you could try a suzuki, a lee oskar, a sydel ....

I find that my MB's 4 draw gets flat easy - any advice on how to remedy it?

You're sucking too hard Shane. I blew every harp I got when i first started. I've had a set of 12 SP20s now for about 4 years and haven't blown one in all that time. It's just practise and learning to control your breath.
Is the reed completely gone or does it just need a tune?

zonkyeah, I think you definitely should get a Marine Band. I'm not saying you'll like it more than the Special 20, but you for sure should try it. It's a matter of taste after all.
Some people like the Special 20 because the plastic comb doesn't swell or because it's less leaky. I bought a Special 20 to give it a shot but I never even touch it because I prefer the shape and sound of my Marine Bands.
So, try it and decide yourself which one is the best for you :)

I originally thought the special 20 was great but the more I play & the better I get I definately prefer marine bands. Now I just have to wait for my others to go bad so I can replace them with marine bands. Only problem is the whole nails & unsealed comb bit IMO.

zonkyeah,
Myself, I prefer the tone of the MB. Nevertheless, when I play my spl20, I alter my cupping hand a bit. I think I just make the heels of both hands touch, as a default position from which to alter the tone. The spl20 is a pretty damn nice harp. ---------- 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchen; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty' - Frank Zappa

Put some MB covers on the SP20 and see how you like it.
