I was reading up on Junior Wells and found this rather earthy remembrance of JW from Delmark chief Bob Koester:

Part of me wishes Koester was better at telling the whole story, but if you ever wanted to hear about the time Junior Wells pulled a gun out at a gig, there's more than one story to pick from, as it turns out.

Not a super-significant anecdote, but I did meet Junior Wells backstage at a festival in Peoria, IL a few years before he passed. I let on that I played a little and he asked me to demonstrate. I pulled out a lint-choked Pocket Pal and proceeded to wheeze out a few out a few questionable licks. Mr. Wells screwed up his face a bit and patted me on the back and said, "Keep working on it son. You'll get it. You'll get it." It was horribly embarrassing and exhilarating all at the same time.
Anyway, he was very gracious with his time considering that I ambushed him with my harp attack.

Ballsy move, B flat. Like telling Rembrandt you paint every now and then.

But that's a story to keep tucked up on the mantlepiece. And at least he didn't pull a gun on you.

Man, if somebody sonically assaulted me with a Pocket Pal the way I did Mr. Wells, I'd at least punch 'em in the mouth. :^)
