Curious what you all think of a London player- Lee Sankey.
Hope this embedded thing works, otherwise find the clip on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0c3WYs4MpA
At this stage he's retired the full touring band - but still a great show if you catch him in his occasional local gigs with a small combo.
Anyway, to my ears he's up there with the best blues-based players, certainly one of the most interesting. He seems very musical, and has plenty of ideas way beyond the usual 50s Chicago or West Coast blues styles. Huge acoustic sound too, probably the most resonant (and loudest) I've heard.
Appears to me that Lee is yet another one of those really good players that plays upside-down. I can't help but wonder if there is some correlation between not realizing (or caring) which way is up when you first start playing and the drive, commitment and/or obsession required to be real good.
I think I recall reading that Butter played upside down because he began on classical flute - and so it made sense to him for the notes to ascend to the left rather than right.
