In a recent post there was talk of playing while walking, this one is about playing at work...I work as a baker and get to work around 4am but i dont need to start before 5.30 so it gives me a solid hour of practice and then play whenever i have a few minutes during my shift, the nice part is have the place to myself all day, the only inconvenience, my harps get filled with flour....

I work in the software industry. When I'm in my office I obviously don't get to play. That's one of the reasons I was curious about walking and playing. Right now I'll take a couple of 15 minute breaks during the day, sit in my car and play. I'm not confident enough to sit outside along the wall and play but I'm starting to feel a 'yearning' to do so. I also drive a lot for work from client site to client site so I play in my car a lot.

ChrisA, I hopw you play dry. Add spit to all that flour and you'd a ruin a few harps pretty quickly.
I can say that playing in your car while you're driving would be akin to cell phone distractions. Might not be a good idea, yet I understand from this and other forums that a lot of people do it. not sure that the obsession is worth the potential accident. Anyway, When I first started I was working two jobs as a mechanic so I used to play at work but during breaks and lunch. This equated to about 2 hours per day of practice. Not that it shows much from my current playing but hey still got a lot of fun in during a boring work day. Harps got kinda greasy after a while but with two jobs I could always replace them as needed. Now I'm working as long hours with one job and playing a lot less so in hindsight that was a good time.

I work in a civil service department. I always take a harp to work, but I never get to play it, except sometimes in the evenings I play it in the washroom for a few minutes before I go home to enjoy the acoustics.

I work night shifts at a Pharma plant and occasionaly I have to go to a huge wharehouse we have to get some parts. I always try and carry a harp with me and the acoustics in the wharehouse are great...instant reverb.I don't really practice but just let rip with a few licks. Got the shit scared out of me one night when I turned round to see 2 of our security gaurds standing listening to me playing...they were impressed with the playing but then it don't take much to impress a security guard.

I work 3rd shift at IHOP and i play most every night there. The drunk people love it and it helps me pass the dead times. And i absolutely love the bathroom there. The sound is incredible. ---------- ---Go Chicago Bears!!!---

I work at a university, so I could sit out under a shady tree and play at lunch or break times. As I get better and build a bit more of a repertoire, I just may do that. I play as I walk in, and pretty much only put my harp away when I enter my building. Most people around pay me no notice at all -- many are plugged in to their iPods, Blackberries, phones, etc. I've also found a few great stairwells that I like to loiter in.

My job includes professional exams, and I'm given study time to prepare. Study time by myself, in a closed off room. I always have a harmonica with me...of course it eventually worked it's way out into the open for the occasional song...
