I picked one up yesterday with sealed wood comb and I am seriously impressed with the quality of the finish and fit. Being a lifelong lover of the MB I must admit I was skeptical of the price at first thinking that this would have to have great playability and good manufacturing quality to justify the price. I only played it for about 20 minutes last night and very softly at that as a break in but in that time I find that there is a vast improvement in the response and clarity. I only played simple tunes in first position but it was easy to find my way around. Oh, and....straight from the box, 8 draw, no problem. As per my other thread, I was frustrated trying to get that note on an MB. I have tried plastic and other sealed comb OE harps with extreme disatisfaction at the low quality of workmanship. I have always reverted back to the MB and probably more because of tradition then anything else. Time will tell but at first impressions it was worth the money.

A little tip - the Guitar Center in San Jose recently had these in stock for $90 in multiple keys. If you sign-up to receive their catalog you can get a 10% coupon every month, and sometimes a 15% or more coupon for special events. You would have to call your local Guitar Center to see if they are in stock as the 1847 doesn't seem to appear on their website.

I think its pretty rare for a guitar center to have anything besides hohner's and lee oskars... I wouldn't count on any seydels at your local GC... I'm guessing yours just had them because someone sold them to your store privately. ---------- "Without music, life would be a mistake" -Nietzsche

Recently, I bought three 1847 Silvers in G, A and Bb.
I must agree that they are pretty damn nice harps. When it comes to OBing, I'm a bit of a novice, but I can manage 6OB on the A and above well enough to use in a song.
Oh, and another thing: they're very LOUD. ---------- 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchen; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty' - Frank Zappa

The ease for me of course is that this web site,
www.musicianswebstore.com
is hosted by a local music shop right close to me. I can see what's online, check the inventory and then stop in on my way home from work. Works out nice for me. ---------- "Keep it in your mouth" - XHarp

Yes, I bought an 1847 Silver and I'd agree that it is very loud. I was impressed, but would say the harp needs gapped out of the box. I bought mine at the Guitar Center in downtown Seattle for @ $90. I do know that they are not available at all or even most Gtr. Ctrs. To be honest I am more anxious to receive my custom harp from Buddha. I'm guessing that his harps will out perform the Seydel.

it WILL out perform the Seydel. A custom MB will beat a custom 1847 too.

I bought an out of the box MB and had nothing but trouble with it. I need to learn to customize. At first I thought just a basic harp is fine. However coming to find out if you blow all the time, spending some extra cash on a nice harp is worth it.
