so I broke it to them...
These guys are knuckeheads and they keep canceling rehearsals because the harp player is a flake. There are two guitarist so I suggested one of them plays the bass and I'll blow some harp. I'm like "how hard can it be?"
Ya know what they said? "There is nothing worse than a shitty harp player"
I said I will treat their ears to the best harp playing in this town. I was laughed at... "good luck"

LOL! So what does everyone think is the worst instrument to have to listen to a rank beginner learning to play? Yep, I bet violin would sound pretty awful...
Chris, I knew you couldn't keep it under your hat for long! :) What did the harp player say when he found out?

Heres a nice little story
Remember the little story I posted about the person graduating from Westpoint and then having to go down the local station looking for salutes.
Well in this case could it be that they have to be content with salutes from a boy scout.
The only problem being that the boy scout doesn't register that type of salute and to be fare why should they.
The boy scouts currently has autonomy and struggles with the arrival of the graduate from West point who wishes to command and control.
In any form of life this always has only one outcome.
Arrogance and ego, ha ha
sure you will get a few votes on the way from the very young who can be blinded but long term it will come back to haunt you.
Remember the boy scout who follows eventually grows up.

When this is all said and done - I would like to hear this story from the remaining band members points of view - I'm think it would be very insightful. ---------- If it ain't got harp - it ain't really blues!!!!

I'm pretty sure I won't be well liked after friday. I was getting pretty testy with them the other night. The harp player keeps canceling and he canceled again for friday's rehearsal. They don't want to practice unless the whole band is there.
I pushed them to get together on friday as planned they were worried about having no harp so I told them I would play it so they didn't have an excuse. One of the guitarist was the bassist before me. That's not saying much because I suck at playing the bass.
I'll be bringing my full effects rig. :-)

"we meet on friday that's when I'm gonna bust out the harp and then quit. "
Maybe you shouldn't be so fast to quit.
It does sound like the whole group is kinda flaky if they don't want to rehearse with a man down, but they may just fire the harp player and a new band will form out of this.
Just a thought... I haven't been there so I'm sure there's more to the story.

I would stay but they seem more interested in drinking beer than actually playing music. While is band is good for my bass playing it wouldn't be good for my harp playing because it's not engaging enough.

With the Richter note placement harmonica, every note is arranged in a specific scale, arranged for perfect harmony. Blow or draw anywhere, you have a perfect chord. Give a harmonica to a beginner, he can play a perfect chord. He hears the harmonica's inherent harmony and is playing Mary had a Little Lamb in five minutes. Give a violin, which has no inherent harmony, to a beginner and he hears eagle talons scraping a chalkboard. The difference is the shitty harmonica player doesn't always know he's shitty.

Well, since you're quitting, I suppose you won't need that bass or amp. Just send it with the tuba harp, Buddha.

I got fired from my bass gig. I was gonna quit anyway. They didn't like my attitude about thinking it was easy to play harmonica and I was over the top by saying I could play at a world class level by today...
They brought in three harp players for auditions and one bassist. One player is one of my regular students and the other recognized me. It was a mess.
Oh well.

You should have stolen the other harmonica players and formed a quartet! I know harmonica quartets are popular in Asia. If you still wanted to play 'bass' you could have switched to something low tuned or a real bass harmonica.

I actually have a Bass Harmonica but my dad has it in his office as a decorative paper weight.
