wow! i finally took some of my own advice. i have always advocated getting lessons for others. not that i didn't need them, too.

i have sent some folks from this and other forums to a teacher, john costa, in indiana. waaay to far for me to go on a regular basis. but we kept in touch, talked harp once in a while. however, i knew i couldn't get serious with lessons from him due to the distance.

then comes modern technology to his part of the world. he got hi-speed internet, a webcam and i am now a student! thank you skype! i took a preliminary lesson today that was to judge my skill level, or lack of, and determine where i wanted to take my playing.

i have started tongue-blocking and a more formal lesson plan is on the way. his price is damn cheap. cheaper than many other skilled teachers. john was a long term student of joe filisko. he became part of filisko's mob. he has taught at gindick's jam camp, too.

sorry for the long post. mine are usually short and funny. but after this initial lesson, i am very psyched and feel rejuvenated. i once again urge folks to seek a teacher to guide you, one-on-one, to the next level of this journey we are on.

eharp, thanks for turning me onto John. I was skeptical at first, and was going to make the trek to Chicago to take group lessons with Joe Filisko, but Joe himself said I should go to John, and I get private lessons locally for the same price as group lessons all the way in Chicago. BTW, you called him in the middle of my lessons once. We'll have to get together next time I'm in Detroit. What suburb are you in?

Heck, I always stay at the Novi Courtyard! My biggest customer is in Walled Lake. I'll get your number from John (or vice versa.)
