Two fantasic educators and players.Buddha and Kudzurunner.

Ok this is how I see it.

Going back many many years I taught both in British Airbourne and Commando.

(Did the USA stuff which is a touch different in approach)

Brit Airbourne training worked on humiliation style.
Little or no encouragement. Respect came from achievement only. A certain type of animal. Usually even in adversity would be trained to carry on mission.Max disruption (Very hard to accept but the most rewarding)

Commando was very much designed on encouragement.
In certain circumstances would evaluate under adversity.
But again tough.

Now I think If you could combine the two then you would really have something for the modern player. Both are equally great but (they have one fundermental thing in COMMON.***)

The reason I say this is because on the forum and lessons
Kudzunners style is a joy to see and yet not for the faint hearted. It requires commitement.

Buddha probably dosen't realise but time and time again he keeps giving us all the answers to why Kudzurunner plays as great as he does and why he plays great in his way.

If your not sure read Buddhas threads for the answer simply because I favour an Airbourne approach to this particular point I wish to highlight. ***.

Really interesting post, Sopwith. I do think you've touched on a curious Spy vs. Spy element that binds Chris and me into a kind of dyad or dynamic duo. I SEEM to be supportive, and am, but I've also got a harsher, pissed-off, bluesy side that occasionally rears its head--sometimes even in live one-on-one teaching circumstances. Chris SEEMS to work "humiliation style" in some of his honest-to-a-fault critiques (on this forum, for example), but anybody who thus assumed that he's a junkyard dawg in person or on the phone would be pleasantly shocked to discover that he's a very friendly and personable guy.

I wonder if there would be a market for a Chris-and-Adam traveling roadshow: two harp player/teachers holding a week's worth of evening clinics in cities between, say, Phoenix and Atlanta. Play a few solo pieces and duets, dialogue about our respective philosophies of the instrument, have players get up and play for 30 seconds apiece, offer constructive/destructive criticism. If there was demand, this would be worth doing.

I would do that in a second Adam.

SOP is right about "Very hard to accept but the most rewarding" I have a fairly thick filter to get through but as most have experienced on a personal level there is a very deep and rich inner life to me that I am very generous with. I love to go above and beyond that "I" feel merit it, which is basically everyone and anyone who can see past the shields.

I would certainly attend, if I didn't live across the pond. Last I checked London is not a city between Phoenix and Atlanta!

Having said that I will be moving to New Orleans for three months at the end of the summer...

We don't get enough great harp players visiting the UK regularly and when we do they tend to stay around the London & South East area.

It's such a shame as the northern half of the country boasts some of the countries best players. If you go into Newcastle there is so much talent there (in all instruments) it's incredible, and up in Scotland too.

Budda, blues week is possibly your best chance to get over. Filisko will be over this year, I think Adam was over last year and Dennis Gruenling might have done it before too.

http://www.euroblues.co.uk/bluesweek2009.htm

The national harmonica league might bring people over too -

I would like to see Jon Gindick organise a UK Jam Camp, I thik I read somewhere before that it would be too expensive to for him to run a Jam Camp in the UK,I wonder if the change in exchange rates might make it a bit more affordable.

Kingley:Lancaster I did laugh being a Brit.

No these things can happen one day man you know. Bringing Kudzurunner and Buddha in under the old pirate flag routine ha ha.( it would work with these too together. (You see its what classes as funding is key)

They would have to come for whatever money was available for sure.I could stand a few gigs with my guys if others were prepared to do further south.

Probably do a couple of hip joints with cool looking talent and a couple of non hip joints with some old geezers.

I would use an old tried and tested formula. Jazzers that can play GOOD blues with B3 man.

2x harps, sax b3 man drums etc. Kudzurunner does some of his grooves, wings the rest of blues,or a bit funk stuff ,Switching to Buddha who cuts his stuff we just lock down on his. While kudzunner fights off the talent at the bar. And then some appropriate ones together Punters get two for one and are none the wiser.

The trick is I call them the pirate gig you get double the crowd.ha ha.

Hey could probably even wing them both a tutorial workshop but for all comers at college.Kudzurunner first followed by Buddha.
May have to offer councilling after Buddhas ha ha.

Be a whirlwind trip 2 to 3 days max in North Leeds.
IF others could arrange south it could work with different bands.

Advice fly cheapest like bi-plane and stay drunk through out till back in USA.

You may go home broke but you had a hell of a time.

I've got a month off in my teaching schedule between December 15 and January 15, more or less. Early January could work. Or next summer.

And let's not forget: I'm a one-mand band now. Not just "Crossroad Blues." I've got a killer version of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" for harp & foot-drums. It's so good that I'm not going to release a video of it because Hakan Ehn will pick up on it. I'm reinventing myself as Mr. Adam, the one-man band. If Buddha can front that--well, two harps and foot drums ain't been done, so it could be fun.

ADAM, COME TO PHOENIX!!!!!!!!!!!!! How cool would it be to hang out with both you and Chris at the same time... I'd definately be down for that! Any listers that want to come in for it could stay at my house, (wife-approval pending), and we could have decent party afterward! That sounds very cool to me....

I think if Adam and Chris taught together it would be a fantastic clinic. Both coming from different perspectives. The participant could choose what they really wanted to learn - great!!
